Energy Audits Save $$$

After doing several hundred energy audits, we finally had time when the market slowed down in October, 2008 to do an energy audit on our own home. We decided to make our home our guinea pig and let the truth be proven in the utility bill.  Our utility bills were running between $260 and $380 on our 2,200 square foot home. We walked around and conducted the audit on our appliances, our plugged in energy vampires like the phone chargers, computer equipment and tvs. We were guilty of all of the usual suspects and put everything on power strips (then turned off the strip - the key) - who knew cable boxes are constantly communicating with satellites and use an inordinate amount of energy? Then we did the part thats making us so popular - we pulled out the infrared camera and walked around outside, inside and up in the attic. We were able to narrow down the items needing our immediate attention to strategically choose where to spend our time and our money. After re-glazing a few windows, caulking and weatherstripping, we ran out of time as the market picked back up and we were back at work full-time. We have been very thankful ever since - every time we pay our utility bill. We have succeeded in reducing our bills to less than $150 every month and last month it was only $113. Yeah! I hope our clients follow our recommendations in order to achieve their goals and in our own way confirm our belief that one person can make a difference.
