Most Real Estate Investors Will Not Get Out of Bed for MONEY Alone!

I was having lunch earlier this year with a gentleman who had a true gift for poetry.  This person has not had an easy life, in spite of his extensive formal education.  In fact, he had just been released from prison and was attempting to get his life back on track.

During the course of our conversation he indicated that he was doing odd jobs to make ends meet, but what he really wanted to be doing was providing motivational assistance to others going through what he was going through... hoping to help them to avoid the same mistakes he had recently experienced.

While we were talking he mentioned that he did not have any money and so I explored with him why.  What he told me next provides the basis for the most valuable "best practice" in this book.

Very recently this gentleman had been approached by a neighbor to clean up the neighbor's yard.  The neighbor was willing to pay $25 or $30 dollars for this work.  This gentleman indicated to the neighbor that he would stop by the next Sunday and perform the work.  Well, that Sunday came and went, and the work never got done.

When I asked why... the answer startled me...

The gentleman responded, "I woke up that Sunday morning and decided that although I didn't have any money, and I needed it, it just wasn't worth my time and effort to get out of bed and go clean up that yard!"

WOW... you could have knocked me over with a feather.  Here it was... the reason so many real estate investors fail.

Money alone will not keep you as a real estate investor in this game!

Sometimes there are just too many obstacles, problems, issues, you name it, that confront every real estate investor... and at some point in time if you are in it just for the money, you are going to throw-up your hands and say... I'm going to stay in bed today!

Successful real estate investors have a very clear vision why they are investors... and in almost every case money is not the primary reason.  Yes, money is how we measure our success, but believe me when I tell you, based on this "best practice" that if money is the only reason why you are in this game... it is not going to be fun.

Peter,  You have a very interesting example in your post.  I agree that money alone is often not a good motivator and I like your comment about the importance of "vision".  Thanks for sharing.

Gary,

My pleasure.  In my expierence those who demonstrate the most success are those who have a very clear view of why they are doing what they are doing.

Funny how that works!
