In its thirteenth year, the Carolina Downhome Blues Festival continues to be a must-do weekend in Camden featuring legendary international talent. Don't miss artists like Hilton Valentine (of The Animals), Heritage Artist John Dee Holeman, Drink Small, Wanda Johnson, Veronika Jackson and many, many more! Through, Saturday, October 3. The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told. A Trustus Theatre classic returns to the mainstage! A stage manager, headset and prompt book at hand, brings the house lights to half, then dark, and cues the creation of the world. Performances through October 3. Friday, October 2. Dancing Under the Stars. Columbia City Ballet's third annual fundraising gala, Dancing Under the Stars: Venetian Carnivale, will be held this Friday at the historic Arcade Mall on the 1300 block of Main Street. This year's event promises to be the most spectacular yet, with custom-made Venetian masks available for purchase and pick up at the door, Italian spirits and cuisine, and of course, a variety of entertainment worthy of the authentic Carnivale. Please come join us for an evening of cultural camaraderie and brilliant dancing, choreographed by our own Columbia City Ballet dancers! Friday, October 2. The Root Doctors Live! Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome to the World of FUNK! Opening for acts like The Gap Band, CAMEO, KC and The Sunshine Band, Morris Day and the Time and others, The Root Doctors is one of the original party bands of the Southeast and you can see what all the hype is about this Friday. The Historic Columbia Speedway is where this amazing act will perform so bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnics, but no coolers please! The Reid's Rock'n' on the Raceway Concert Series is produced by the West Metro Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center, the Historic Columbia Speedway Marketing Group and is presented by Vista Art. 6:30-9 pm. Saturday, October 3. Palmetto Health Foundation's Walk for Life. More than 3,200 women and men in South Carolina will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Thanks to your support, more than $360,000 was raised to help the Palmetto Health Breast Center increase awareness, education, patient and family support and research. Finlay Park. 9 am. Sunday, October 4. Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra. The Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra (LMSO) is a community orchestra comprised of volunteer musicians which draws its membership from the Midlands area. It is dedicated to performing classical and light classical music, exposing the audience to quality live music while providing a pleasurable musical experience for adults, children and families. This concert is a part of "unearth," a celebration of naturally inspired art at Saluda Shoals Park. The concert will be held at 5 pm. Visit LMSO for more information.

Monday, October 5. Fire Prevention Parade! The Columbia Fire Department cordially invites you to participate in their 13th Annual Fire Prevention Parade. The purpose of the event is to bring awareness to this year’s Fire Prevention Week Campaign, “STAY FIRE SMART! Don’t Get Burned.” Participants should meet at Riverfront Park at 9:00 AM. Coffee and doughnuts will be served before the line-up. The parade will begin at the corner of Laurel and Main Street and end at the corner of Main and Gervais Street. Following the parade, participants will be served lunch at Headquarters Fire Station located at 1800 Laurel Street. For more information or to register, call the Columbia Fire Prevention Bureau at 545-3701. The parade will take place at 11:00 A.M. so don't be late.
