Realtor Call for Action! The general public can get involved also!

Do not let the sunset on the tax credit!

This was emailed to most of you last week. Congress needs to know we want/need an extension on the $8,000 tax credit. I have been told if even 25% of REALTORS responded your congressmen would pass it. It only takes a minute or two from the link below. It is your livelihood so you should take the time.

I attended the state meetings here in Missouri and was saddened by the fact only 10% of agents responded thus far.

Come on people! This is helping our business and the economy.

The program needs to die! Many areas have seen a drop in entry level homes. Let's stop borrowing from our children and grandchildren for programs that do not work (unless obama wants to help me buy a new boat LOL). If not only pandering to the obama voter base their may be a program that helps- like $5K to buy down the life interest rate of all new (not refis) loans. Continuing to move only the bottom end will do little. Let's help everyone buying and not be helping nothing but obama's agenda.

This may or may not provide a stimulus to the market. I would think that depressed prices and very low interest rates would provide an incentive, but the market is still very slow. Perhaps more effort should be given to growing the economy, instead of growing the government debt. That said, I have been hearing that it is likely that an extension will be made, but not announced too soon to impact the momentum created by the existing tax credit.

Ann - I have mixed emotions about this program. I think it may have accelerated some purchasers timelines. However, it has been more "found money" than "necessary" assistance.

I had one first-timer get under contract this week, and another will probably make an offer early next week. Friday we closed a home for a first-time couple. Everyone I'm working with right now with the exception of one individual is buying their first home. This credit has really gotten their attention.

Found money to fix houses in my cases. I have many first time buyers who have big plans for home improvements on their new houses....

I often wonder how much money is "found" through loopholes that no one hears about.

Yes, they are trying to get the word out. I do think the credit should be less than 8,000. This way the buyers who did buy this year do not feel bad about taking advantage of it.
