If you've been spending any time at all in New York City lately, then you must have noticed that home improvement is hotter then ever before. Inner city denizens are spending truck-loads on buying real estate and remodeling to suit their varied interests. A lot of great New York home remodeling innovations can be spotted in popular magazines. Let's have a look at what the latest trends are in NYC today:

Home improvement projects don't always have to lighten your pockets if you know what materials to use; one example would be using Vinyl siding for your Queens home. Vinyl is quickly becoming a popular choice for many home owners in the city. All of the experts seem to agree that vinyl siding is the best option for your home. Lots of people choose wood, only to see it chip and flake over time while vinyl is cheaper and far more reliable. We all tend to remember the days of old boring white and gray siding, but vinyl siding has evolved to meet today's standards, being made to imitate wood and other materials aesthetically while proving more durable. All that being said, it's no coincidence that vinyl siding is now one of the most demanded materials when considering exterior home remodeling project options.

Vinyl can last for life-times, some even argue that no other materials used for the home today can outlast it, recommending it for both cold and warm weather climate zones. However, while new vinyl siding seem to withstand any environmental situations, it has been known to crack during hail storms. So what does that mean for a New Yorker? Well even though such harsh weather is a rarity in our case, such factors should be weighed in when discussing your home improvement options. It's for this very reason that any expert would suggest using a vinyl coating as opposed to your standard panel siding which may be more prone to dents and cracks.

All in all, when your thinking about home remodeling in New York, we need to be sure to consider all things. Weather we are working on the interior or exterior of our home there are lots of pros and cons to measure. Quality is everything, and you can't always settle for the lowest price. While it can be lots of fun remodeling your home, you should always get an expert opinion before attempting any project. It's very important that you make a well educated decision, because it's one you'll have to live with... literally.

Interesting to think about how climate affects different building materials. In Georgia some vinyl siding actually melts and warps in the hot sun after just a few seasons. I don't know if that is all vinyl or just some vinyl. You can drive through neighborhoods of "starter homes" and see the siding warped and popping off. I never thought about how cold may affect it. I own one home with vinyl siding which was installed in 1997 and it's still in very good condition. However that home is almost always in the shade. Do you know of particular brand names that are better than others?

Dennis,

Just recently was talking to a builder and he for some reason said that vinyl siding does  not hold well diring the  hurricanes. Did  you jere anything about it?
