Hampton Beach New Hampshire * 7th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest*

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential Verani Realty

I had meetings most of the day today but found a small window of opportunity that won't be available again until late Saturday.

So I took it and headed to the Beach.

I'd been itching to go all week because 300 tons of imported sand was dropped on Hampton Beach last Friday all in preparation for Hampton Beach's 7th Annual Sand Sculpture Competition.

This is something you just have to see as pictures simply do not do it justice. At least mine do not!

There are 12 Masters of the Sand Sculpture Universe competing for over $10,000.00 in prize money.

You can meet the masters by clicking here >>>2007 Competitors.

When I arrived today only a few had started working on their sculptures but what I saw was incredible

On Saturday the 23rd the winner will be announced followed by an awards ceremony and fireworks. This is a big event at Hampton Beach but if you can't make it don't despair as the sculptures will be on display until the 28th.

It is very inspiring to watch it live so I highly recommend taking a trip to the beach to watch people create masterpieces out of simple sand and water. One thing I didn't know was that this is a timed event and each competitor has a total of 21 hours over a 3 day period to create their masterpiece. Wow!

The beach has lighted night viewing so if you can't make it till after work you can still take in the sights.

The event is co- sponsored by Greg Grady and the "The Grady Bunch" built the mammoth Sand Demo Site that the competition is being held on.

Be sure to cast your vote for the coveted Peoples Choice Award on Saturday. It will be a hard decision for me to make and I haven't even seen them all yet!

This is just a small sample of what is being created at Hampton Beach this weekend. See you Saturday!!!

George...I was so disappointed at my pictures because real life looked so much better so I'm very pleased that you can see how incredible they are!!!

Joan...Imagine spending the week in the sun doing this? I was tempted to sign up for lessons :)

Ginger...Yeah they have 21 hours in 3 days to complete the sculpture. After they are all done it is sprayed with some bio-degradable material which crusts it over like the M&M shells. After June 28th...they will all be removed!

Jay...I guess you just never know what I'll be doing while you play :)

Maggie...It must be the thrill of the competition that makes them do it.  While I was there bystanders were giving the artists pictures they took of last years competition. It was really cool!

Monika,

Cool stuff..I think the best I could do is maybe a stick figure? Seems like the sand always crumbles..well I never said I was good at sculpting.

Awesome work!  The city of Fort Myers Beach has sand castle competitions a few times a year.  The skill is amazing isn't it?  They sure do draw a crowd.

Chris...They've had huge crowds everyday but not a large as last years. This event runs nearly 2 weeks and is a very popular one. Yesterday they showed it on TV.

Kaye...I'm still amazed that they can do this and that it stays until it gets torn down.  It is really neat to watch them build them.

Hi Monica,

I was just viewing your photos of the sand sculptures. I just posted some of the shots I took Sunday on my BetterPhoto.com site, I still have more to post. If you google my name and check the betterphoto site you can check them out. I think I got a shot of all of the displays. They are so awesome. I will be entering one each day in the better photo daily photo contest. I'm not sure how many I will post to my web site on yessy.com/kathyradford I will probably only post a few there. I wish more people could enjoy them in person but at least they can enjoy the photos. You can compare the photos you took while in progress with the finished work I took. Glad I could share them with people.

Danny...That is so hard to believe but I guess since it's just sand and water they can't last forever. Next year they do it all over again.
