It's Fall...and I'm Homesick! What's Fall Mean to YOU?!?

FallFoliage2009Don't get me wrong, I love living here in Vista, CA (been living here since 1984 now!)...they don't call it the World's Climatic Wonderland for nothing afterall...but I really and truly get a tad bit homesick every year about this time...

And mothers know everything.  No really, they do.  My mom just sent this picture of a dirt road back home, Northern Vermont, to me on my iPhone.  Isn't it pretty?  Granted, I have tons more from previous years...and waxed leaves...the whole works that she sends me every year...some are artwork quality...this one was just out as she was driving around and thought of me.

So, since I'm sharing what fall means to me (the start of the holidays, the smells of pumpkin spice and cinnamon, beautiful fall leaves, crisp cool evenings...), I thought I would open up a post where everyone could post a picture...of what fall means to them...with a brief text description.  Don't be shy...hijack my post.  I would love to see any other northern US leave shots as well...I love landscapes.  But any photo will do as long as it embodies what fall means to you.

OH...and THANKS, Mom!!!  I needed that!

If you're not learning, you're not living!

Fall means cooler temps...so in Central Texas that means we dip down into the 80s and I put on a sweater!  :o)))  This year we are actually seeing some color change, which I love and nothing quite like Friday Night Football and feeling the cooler breezes at the stadium!!

Fall is my favorite time of year too. There's something to be said for every season but Fall has them all beat. The apple picking and pumpkin picking. The smell of fireplaces and apple crisp and the chilly temperatures and crisp crunching leaves beneath your feet. Ahhhhh..... Fall

While we don't get all the perks those up north get in the Fall, in December, when you're all wearing snowsuits, we're wearing bathing suits. Ahhhhh....... Florida.

Jeani - sweaters in the 80s, huh?  LOL  That soooo sounds like me!

Richard - Good one!  I completely agree...but it doesn't stop me from missing just a taste of fall :-)

Hi Christine ~ I don't have any foliage photos yet but when I do I'll be back.

One year I had a boss who had previously worked at Berkeley.  One day we were outside. It was absolutely gorgeous - somewhere in the mid-60s, maybe upper 60s.  I commented that the weather was just perfect.  Her reply "at Berkeley every day was like this". Heaven IMO.

I've always been convinced that if I did live somewhere where every day was moderate I wouldn't miss the seasons. I hate the extremes of summer and winter and many years we barely get a spring and / or fall. And every so often I promise myself to mark on a calendar how many days we actually get in a year that I love weather-wise - not enough that's for sure.

Remember -winter's coming - and maybe a sweater will do you where you are! - or at least you won't need a down jacket and boots, right?!

Liz - well...funny you should mention the down jacket and the boots...I live in my Ugg boots during my "down time" from basically October - April, and I also wear a down jacket at night in the desert.  I'm from Vermont...but I HATE to be cold!  LOL
