Dealing with jealous Realtors

By
Real Estate Agent with Solid Source Realty 243460
I have been in the business 6 years and have been blessed and very successful. I just listed an adorable home. Another agent called my seller, upset that she didn't give her a chance at listing and told her that "She had made a huge mistake". First of all, this agent doesn't know me, I don't know her and I believe this is unethical and rude. I'm not the type to pursue this but warning to other agents. You look better in your clients eyes if you don't act this way. Can't wait to sell this house so I can say, "TAKE THAT"

Yikes.  This is just awful behavior, and an embarrassment to the entire profession.  Sorry it happened.

That is terrible behavior and reflects on us all.  Sad to say it happens a lot.  Maybe we should start calling those agents and confronting them.

Thanks for your reply. I'm brand new at this and I'm really impressed as to the amount of helpful realtors there are out there on this forum.

Thanks for your reply. I know I could report it but to me she has to live with herself and her comments. Life is too short for that.

It saddens me to hear this.  It's agents like the one you mentioned above that helps promote a negative public image of our industry.  Unfortunately, negative stories carry more weight in the eyes of the public.    It seems to me that the agent may have violated the code of ethics.  I have been in that situation recently.  However, I was on the reverse side of it.  My neighbors, whom I am close with, had listed their home with a competitor just prior to me starting my practice.  I really wanted to assist them with the whole process but knew that it was not the right thing to do once they had received representation.  I never once questioned them as to why they did not ask me to list their home.  Hardly a day would pass where I would not engage in conversation with my neighbors.  Frequently, the conversation we would have would stray off topic and they would start talking about their current agency and proceed to ask me advice.  I ALWAYS referred them back to their agent and never once offered them advice.  Before you knew it, 60 days passed and their house had 3 showings.  Their agent was not marketing the property, he was not returning phone calls, he was not communicating with them at all.  They had had enough.  They contacted me and told me they had released their prior agent and would like to see what I could do for them.  I never asked them why they went with the original agent over myself.  To me, what was important was that they wanted me now.  That house is still listed with me.  I communicate with them daily and market the property accordingly .  Even though I have not been fortunate to be able to present them with an offer yet, they know I am doing all I can.  In their eyes, the same could not be said for their "other" agent.

Gayle--Welcome to Active Rain!

This is very unethical behavior! According to the rules of ethics, once under contract, another Realtor is not supposed to contact your client directly. And you are not suppose to say anything negative about another agent either. You could report this agent to your board or association.

Gayle, Enjoyed our chat this morning!

We all know that this agent was totally out of line and looked really unprofessional to the seller. Good luck on selling this listing quickly.

You and your client both need to report that person to the ethics board. It upset your client and is just plain wrong and that person needs to be out of the business, if that is how they go about getting listings.

Thanks Dale:

I'm on the Ethics Board so it's kind of ironic. Sometimes people just aren't worth it but thanks anyway.
