Have You Ever Considered "Going Out On Your Own"?

By
Real Estate Agent with Principle Broker / Owner

Many independent contractor REALTORS chose a career in real estate for its independence, flexible schedule, and hopefully financial rewards.  Some of those strike out on their own to create their own Image Branding and do so with success.

Have you ever considered going out on your own to create and build your own brokerage?  Here's some thoughts along that line which may help you get there:

  • Lay the foundation by working on a TEAM of driven real estate professionals to get the full orbed experience and networking with others.  Getting along with differing personalities and work styles is important for the owner/principal broker because you'll face it managing your own office and team.
  • Get your principal broker license and creat your own TEAM within a large high profile brokerage.  Once you get your clientele built to a point, you'll be assured that those loyal clients will follow you wihen you open your own shop.  However, some of those team members may enjoy working in a large office so they may not join you when you take the leap to go out on your own and build your own brokerage.
  • Get your own principal broker license and hire yourself out as the managing principal at a small to mid-size brokerage for a couple of years or so.  Set your timeline to get the experience.
  • Then, open your own shop once you have the team built (at least the foundation for a great brokerage), your'll have your client base following you, and you'll likely be able to attract excellent candidates to join you because they're aware of your successes.
  • By all means lay your foundation before you open your own brokerage by creating your business plan, hiring a marketing firm to create your image branding, shop for the best facility location, equipment, supplies, etc.

This is just the high-level framework, so do be advised to be a successful businessperson you need to have great management skills, great people skills, great negotiation skills...and financial wherewithal to endure for the first year or two.

Good luck and greeat success!
