In the heart of the city of San Jacitno is a small park that I have wizzed by hundreds of times since I have lived in the Hemet - San Jacinto Valley in the South West Riverside County region of the Inland Empire in Southern California.
Evan as a veteran, I never really paid that much attention to it - it is a pretty small park and right in the heart of the old town portion of the City of San Jacinto.
Today, I was meeting a client in the area - and she got caught up in traffic - running about a half hour late. So, I parked and walked around the park. I was in awe at the beauty and solace of the place - it really is a fitting tribute to our Veterans and Active Duty Armed Forces.
I myself served in the U.S. Army, from 1971 to 1981 and got out as a Staff Seargeant - E6. 6 of these 10 years were spent on the front line of the Cold War, stationed on the Iron Curtain. Three of those years I was assigned to an Armor Battalion with a fleet of 54 M60A1 Tanks - like the one in the center of the park.
Believe it or not, this actually brought back some fond memories...maybe not the type I'd be proud of to discuss in mixed company, but nostalgic pride of a young man serving his country...
There are other monumnets, from each of the armed services and of course there is the monument to the POW/MIA that will never be forgotten...
God Bless our troops...and May God Continue to Bless America...
And perhaps most importantly, May America Bless God!
