Go West Young Man was the mantra of many a settler in days gone by. From the first settlements at Jamestown to our current time, people have moved west. One of the reasons for this was of coarse because there was no other direction for the majority of settlers to go. Situated on the banks of the mighty Atlantic Ocean, left very few other options.
The times have certainly changed, especially in the past few years as people are moving NORTH. From the borders of Mexico to parts unknown, a throng of people are setting sales to move farther to the north. In our immediate area of Kingwood, it is partly due to the growth of the NE quadrant of Houston. The Hwy 59 expansion and the available land north of Kingwood has made what used to be rural areas more and more appealing. As early as 20 years ago, Kingwood was a new development. Who would ever even think of moving "that far north?" Well, now we are saying, Porter, New Caney, Splendora and Cleveland...who would even think about moving "that far north?" It is happening as these areas are beginning to explode. New hotels, restaurants, proposed Dinosaur Park, new subdivisions and on and on the list goes.
Another new firm is looking to move to Cleveland TX. It is being targeted by the Chinese as a viable place to set up a Foreign Trade Zone. In a special meeting on Sept 30th, city leaders and officials from China met in a session to discuss the possibilities. The American Huamei Group is looking for a site to set up it's base of operations. Details are vague but for more info on the company you can look at the website:
