Marketing at Pumpkintown

Home Stager with Ready 2 Stage

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of setting up an information booth at our local "Pumpkintown Festival."  The set-up fee for an information only booth was $25, so I thought--WHY NOT??  I have had a difficult time educating and getting the word out about staging in our little city, so I decided that this would be a great way to introduce Athens, Tennessee to READY 2 STAGE HOME STAGING & REDESIGN.

The early morning hours of set-up day were quite rainy.  When we arrived at 9:00 a.m. to prepare, the streets were still a bit wet.  October being a very unpredictable month weather-wise, I wasn't sure whether the day would require cold drinks or warm drinks--so I provided both.  Bottles of water and cups of hot apple cider (both labeled with the R2S name--of course!) attracted many to help themselves to a drink, and watch the slide show of Before & After pics while they were there.

I also offered a FREE kid craft--bookmarks with a nice poem and a pumpkin to color were placed on a table at the side of our booth.  This gave me a chance to talk to the parents while the kids were busy working!  And I didn't forget the drawing for a FREE consultation--which provided me with names and e-mail addresses to add to my contact list!

Being at Pumpkintown was a lot of fun and I feel like I made some good contacts for my business.  But, most of all I saw so many friends, family and acquaintances that I haven't visited with in a while.  I encourage you to get out in your community and get yourself known, by participating in festivals and other community events.

Oh by the way, as we were loading up at the end, a lady walked by and offered me $20 for one of my pumpkin flower arrangements.  So, there was nearly all of what I paid for my set-up fee!  Go figure!!

That's a great way to get some exposure, and the fact that you got most of your money back at the end of the day is just frosting on the cake!

That sounds like a great way to get the word out. There is nothing like face to face contact.

Sharon--I just love when things work out that way!  For very little money--I believe that I made some good progress!  Thanks for your comment!

Allegra--I would much rather do that kind of thing and talk to folks one-on-one that do a big Realtor presentation.  I enjoy meeting new people!  Thanks for your comments.

Lori, these photos are great! You are so creative and put  those creative thoughts to work, job well done! If I was visiting Norhteast Ga. this past weekend I would have driven to Athens just to visit with you. I love fall and all the fun festivals you can cider sounds yummy! It is so much fun when you can get out and meet with the public without doing a formal presentation. Best of all you made money by being creative with your pumpkin arrangement! You go girl!

Thanks Tonia!  It was a lot of fun.  I loved all the networking, but I missed not getting to walk around to see all the other booths.  I will have to visit another town's festival to do that maybe.  Let me know when you're coming this way!

I am so excited for you!  What a creative idea - free drinks and something for the kids to do.  Keeping parents cornered to learn about your business: Brilliant -  Way to go!  The booth looked great.  Was the attendance what you expected?  I am sure wonderful things are going to come from this.  Thanks for sharing your success with us and I can't wait to see how many referrals you get from this event!

Lori, this was such a fantastic idea, and your display looks lovely!  Giving the kiddos something to do so the adults could talk longer was a stroke of pure genius, too!

That looks like such a neat little town, great idea!  Bless you hearts for battling it out with the rain, and it looks like it was chilly too!

Lori, great idea.  Thanks for sharing.  Your booth looks great, and was well thought out like the realtor presentation you blogged about awhile ago.

Sheila--The attendance for Pumpkintown was @8,000--which is great considering the weather and it was also a college football day--which is big around here--GO VOLS!!  I sure do appreciate your sweet comments and I am thankful for your encouragement and great ideas.

Tamara--Thanks for your comments.  I received several comments from parents thanking me for having a FREE kids craft, whereas some you had to pay for and that made it difficult for them to participate.  I ended up giving out @80 bookmarks, 2 gallons of apple cider, and 2 huge bags of candy!  Not a huge investment for what I'm hoping is a big reward!

Cindy--Athens is a great little town.  I was born and raised here, so I knew a lot of the people coming through.  The weather really wasn't so bad.  Last year it was extremely warm and sunny, so I am really glad that it was on the cool side.  Thanks for your comments!

Sheridan--I consider myself a planner, which is good most times, until a wrench is thrown into the plan!  The weather was a little worrisome, since we had the trusty MAC set-up.  My 16 year old (and me) would have been real upset if it had gotten wet! Luckily, we had no rainfall the whole day, just prior to setup.   I appreciate your comments and support!

What a great way to connect with your community and get the word out.  Educating the public about Staging is an ongoing process.  It looks like you had a presentation that would be running on the TV screen - that too is a great way for viewing.  Networking is key in getting your business info out there.

Susan--I believe that education is the key--unfortunately I think I may be teaching kindergarten here!! haha  The visual Before & After pics were attracting some attention.  Thanks for your comments!

Tori--Thank you for your well wishes and your comments!

Cathy--Thanks for your comments.  I didn't have very much invested in the centerpiece arrangement, since the mums were from my own garden, so I was pleased to get $20 for it!  I just love fall too!

Hey Lori! Another great, creative idea from you. I hope you reap many rewards from this event.

Please let us know if you receive "jobs" from this. Also, if the winner of the 'free consultation' uses it. I've given them away and to date, not one person has taken advantage of them.

Debra--What is up with people who won't even take FREE stuff?? I know what you mean.  I have given 2 FREE consultations to 2 different Realtors and neither one has used them yet.  I don't really understand that.  Anyway, thanks for your kind comments, and I am waiting for the rewards to roll.
