As a Realtor, my most important asset are my clients and helping them achieve their dreams and goals. I think that sometimes, the general public doesn't understand what we do. So here is my best effort to explain a "day in the life" ( at least my life). Some days are longer, some end at 10pm, some at 5 and sometimes we take one day off in a given week.

7:30am- checked my email and responded accordingly

8:00 am- called 2 mortgage companies, 3 clients, 1 home inspector, 1 appraiser, 1 attorney

8:30 am- learned that the closings for 2 properties were delayed( with only 2 days notice)both contingent on house sales.

8:35 am- called both stressed out clients. After the upsetting conversation, ironed out details, and other postponements, called the water department, attorney's, banks

9:00am- mailed thank you's and correspondence chose some client gifts online

10:00am- contacted other brokers about homes I have listed to see if they have buyers

11:00 am- called 6 buyers that might be potentials for my listings, called potential new sellers

12:00pm- drove to appraisal about 30 minutes away-while in the car, called brokers to set up showings for buyers

12:30pm- appraisal

1:00pm- ate lunch while completed  time extension agreements for the above

1:45- called 3 brokers back for showings while on the way to my office.

2:00 called 2 mortgage brokers that I knew could help my clients and give them a great deal.

2:15- turned in paperwork

2:30pm- recieved a counter-offer from another agent

2:40pm- got back in the car to present the offer

3:15- arrive at clients home to present the offer and iron out the details

4:00: back in the car to get my time extensions signed.

4:20: arrive at first client-

4:45- back in the car

5:00pm- arrive at second client

5:15- back in the car

5:25- verbally negotiate a contingency for one of my clients

5:30- fax extensions to buyer agent-fax contingency addendum to other buyers agent

6:00-8pm back in car to show 2 homes-

8pm- have some dinner

8:30pm- check email and voice mail and follow up accordingly

9:30pm- I'm done, and enjoyed every minute of this day. I love this business. I love helping people realize their dreams and goals.

So what exactly do Realtors do? They hold everything together for buyers and sellers of property to make sure all parties are absolutely satisfied with their home buying and/or selling experience.

Do any of the other Realtors out there have an example of their day?  You comments are most welcome!

Next Day-

Lori,

great post

What I would like to add that would be different than your day would be (in addition to what you listed, please don't forget........

floor duties and open houses -

attending county commission and planning and zoning meetings for properties rezoning or subdividing

picking out floor plans and naming roads for new subdivisions - preparing collateral packages for these areas

taking an average of 50 incoming calls per day on cell (5000 minutes a month average)

writing my advertising in the middle on the night on my computer  - don't forget trying to get these photos to make this work

following up by email, mail and phone on leads - organizing and keeping these leads together

spend an hour in the morning and an hour at night giving my staff directions by email

making sure the 2 multiple listing services, and 5 internet sites we subscribe to have my more than 150 listings all up to date and correct

reviewing contracts

keeping myself and my staff educated

And just like you.....love it and would not do anything else

Lori,

You really shoud not have asked.....but

6:00 a.m. - open emails and respond - give some directions to staff by email - do some follow up needed

This morning before 8:00 a.m. (yes it is Saturday) I was in my office finishing up last minute brochures and items from my office to attend a Grand Opening of a subdivision.  Brought rugs from home and silk plants to make our outside site in tent look more homey.

Didn't get new floor plans from builder until 9:15 with the opening starting at 10:00 - had everything in packages except plans. - shoved brochures together.

Hit the road with many members of my staff in tow - got a phone call from a buyer who was supposed to meet me when the event was over at 5:00 to ask could I do it at 12:00.  I, of course, (contract) agreed to have him meet me at the site.

Got to site only to find out that the lender delivering tent is late and there were chairs and tables and ice and coolers and yada yada yada to be moved to these tents in my Hummer or on the golf cart on site (my husband with his truck had out of town buyers he was showing with all day).  Already 90 degrees by this time.  Made sure bounce house was set up, sno cone machine, cotton candy machine (I am carnival trained and ready) are all in place.

Found out helium tank needed to be moved from another site- had it ran over - made balloons and put out signs - temp now over 95 degrees. Meet musician to make sure got set up, meet company delivering food and oversee set up of food on site

Trying to direct buyers, staff, make sure builders are confident that this is how they want it done - live entertainer blew fuse in equipment - fixed in minutes but one more stressful moment

Try to meet and greet - 12:00 appointment shows - find a corner - sign contract.

Try to look cool and calm in the heat while moving around - trying to keep my staff revolving in and out of tents and inside homes so no one dropped from heat exhaustion - trying to keep up with keeping prospective buyers covered by staff and treated like guests.

2:30 Get phone call from a new agent just covering a another site across town with a buyer who needed my personal attention - gave quick directives to staff, ran to car, told builders must run as they were in good hands

Ran across town - went through more construction - temp showed at 101 degrees.  Tried to assure buyers new to town, wife pregnant, etc. while working with substitute agent (regular site agent out of town for the weekend.)  Stayed until contract complete around 5:00.  Spent some time watching agent work with buyers and then speaking with her as she had been thrown into a zoo on her first day.

Went back and helped move furniture, clean up and put away food, drinks, coolers, etc. - back to office.  Finished around 7:00 - very dirty, very tired.  On the way home gave feedback to 2 of my builders and 1 of my staff - this continued after I got home where I and worked on computer until around 10:00 trying to follow with with agents, buyers, etc where I had not opened my email since about 6:00 a.m. this morning.

Would like to add that none of this would be possible without the support of my husband, son, staff and builders.  I do thank them for their support - working in this heat when they could have been on the beach I am sure was a sacrafice - many of their family members came to help us as well.  We work as a team.
