Yesterday I had the priveledge to tour Garden Plaza, an independent apartment living complex that features five star amenities such as an indoor salt water pool, indoor mall, theatre, billiard and card rooms, putting green, and multiple courtyards, with fountains.
Garden Plaza is not the first of it's kind in Gwinnett County, but it is the largest and the most well appointed, finally giving those over 55 a choice. It's convenient located across from Garden Plaza's other faciility that houses a nursing home and assisted living. Robert Pollard, the director says, "It's great to have them next to each other. Now spouses and families can be within walking distance if one needs assistance and the other one is more independent.
Garden Plaza has rooms that start at a 600 Square Foot effeciency studio to a 1,200 Square foot luxury sweet. The facility has a lot of self serve options like laundry, but it also could completely automate someone's life with options for dry cleaning, internet cafe's, business meeting rooms, workout facilities. "The idea is to give residents the option to never leave if they don't want to go out," Rob says, "all the conveniences will be here, ask and they will receive."
Conveniently located off Collins Hill Road, Garden Plaza shares some space with Gwinnett College and is less than 2 miles from a Super Walmart. Additionally, it's only 15 minutes to three different malls, The Mall of Georgia, Discover Mills and Gwinnett Place Mall.
Gwinnett College, the new four year university, has plans to teach residents the ins and outs of computers, theatre and possibly instruments.
Additionally, the plaza will have a salon, gift shop, bank and other retail opportunities, including a proposed pharmacy.
Robert Pollard, a new daddy of a 2 year old boy named Andrew, was gushing just as much about the opening day on August 1st, as he was about his family's new addition. He was quick to point out the level of detail, from the imported antique furniture to the intricate statues, this place will fill up fast. In fact, they've already started pre-leasing them.
Rob is quick to point out that the company that runs the facility, is all family owned, as is the builder. Their dedication to this demographic is unheralded. Rent will include 2 meals a day, including a white linen cloth dine in dinner complete with made to order menu, utilities and use of all the faciilties. Residents can add cable and free long distance for only $49 extra a month. Expect rent to be in the neighborhood of $2,400 a month, upward.
Each room features a full kitchen, emergency pull strings for residents and a unique optional check in/out system for residents and their families. Additional, each bathroom is spacious and features a full walk in shower. There didn't appear to be a bad unit in the entire facility.
