I have signed up for Google Alerts, where it scours the internet daily for my name and alerts me when it finds it. The hope is to catch any unauthorized usages of my work on the internet--which has happened by the way--and give me the chance to fix it.

I've been using it for three weeks and so far, nothing. I've found out that there is a prominent Democratic politician named John Sharp, and an Arkansas running back named John Sharpe. And there are lots of articles and blog entries with some form of John or F or Sharp in it and I get alerted to all of them.

So I'm hoping that if I post his blog entry it will show up.

I'll let you know.

It' called Google alerts and if you have gmail you can sign up for free right on the main gmail page.

John - I've been using Google Alerts for about a year.  I haven't discovered anything sinister, but it is interesting to see the results.

Google Alerts used to work really well and send me updates everyday, but now I get them sporadically and never get the ones with my name anymore... I think there's a bug in their system.

Thanks.

I'm a published author and some of my stuff has been used without my permission and I'm hoping that will be one more way to keep an eye on things.

My Google Alerts come once a day and they've been faithful for the entire 3 weeks. Some days I get a bonus alert.
