"Schools Out!" Hop on the BlogBus for the Summer Blog Tour!

By
Real Estate Agent with Fathom Realty West Sound WA State 52404

For those of you ActiveRainers who are new or uninitiated, one of our veteran members, Maureen Francis, started a fun ritual a while back called "The Blog Tour." This was an opportunity for ActiveRain members to share their 'other' blogsites, as well to encourage our collective membership to step outside the comforting confines of the Rain, and experience the greater Blogosphere.

  • Why should you go on the Blog Tour?

There are quite a few of us who not only blog on ActiveRain, but maintain and/or contribute to other real estate blogsites as well.  My other blog is called SoundBiteBlog.  It's a cooperative venture with fellow Rainer, Mark Flanders, that we started back in mid-January. Mark joined ActiveRain near the very beginning and I followed shortly thereafter. We have both learned & benefited so much from our involvement here, and continue to invest in its continued growth & success. But it was only a natural progression for us to develop our own regional blog presence with SoundBiteBlog. Going on the Blog Tour is a non-threatening way to see what others are doing, and expand your blogging horizons!

  • Who goes on Blog Tours?

Everyoneis welcome to jump in and access the blogs that will be on the Blog Tour.  You don't have to have an outside blog.  And who knows, you might just come away with some new, fresh ideas on how to write better content, discover techniques for improving your formatting, or simply have some fun.!

Here is how the Blog Tour works:

  • Put a link in the comments here with your 'other' blog's URL.
  • If you have a past article/post that you think we would particularly enjoy, use can use that as the landing page.  But the main page works too.
  • Please only add one 'other' outside blog.
  • If you do post your own blog here, you must visit 'at least the two other blogs' that sign up immediately before you (Of course, you are welcome to visit more).
  • Make sure to check back here often so you can view additional blogs that have been entered.
When you are out on the Blog Tour, leave some comments to let them know you stopped by.
  • If you encounter a site that you like, you might want to consider adding them to your blogroll.  If you don't have an outside blog, you could add them to your "favorites" on your blog settings or as an associate.

So jump onboard the Blog Bus and enjoy the Summer Blog Tour!

This is great to get all these blog addresses. My current outside blog is with earthlink, so it's not a "real" one and doesn't allow comments. I'm currently working on a WordPress one, so these addresses will be handy for that blogroll.

Like Ann said, I'll catch the next tour when my WP blog is done.

Wow. There are some *really* good "other blogs" out there!

Russ P. - by not allowing comments, I think you're missing out on a *significant* portion of what makes a blog a blog. I've written what I thought were some pretty good posts, only to have others add to it to create what turned out to be exceptional posts.

I don't know what the Blogger platform offers, because I run my blog on WordPress.  There are plug-ins available for WordPress to help manage comments. I get a couple hundred spam comments a day that I don't ever see because the spam killers do their job. Add a "captcha" and you're basically done. The only time I really spend on comments is reading and responding to them. Sure the occasional knucklehead pops in, but sometimes even they add to the conversation!

WOW, I just made it through the entire blog tour.  Of course that means that nobody got featured posts tonight, lol.  Cant do it all.  Maybe I'll go throw a few up before I turn in.

This was a great tour.  There are some really good blogs out there and some great posts on them.

I did notice that a couple of you have comments turned off.  You really need to have them turned on, you are missing out on a large part of the experience and the consumers like to read the comments as much as the articles.

Russ - I would agree with the consensus...you really need to enable the comments in your blog. It totally negates the value of interactive conversational blogging. Why bother blogging then? Why not just have a static website and create loads of pages with content? Engage the consumer in meaningful dialogue. If they can't share their thoughts, they'll leave and not come back...

Not only missing out... but I understand that comments help google notice the blog quicker.  My post are picked up by google usually within an hour.  My blog is all about the "long Tail"  I try to cover everything in the community so when you search for something my post come to the top.

Bob - by disallowing comments, you also eliminate the value of backlinks or salient comments.
