Real Estate Agent with Ken Meade Realty, Inc

Yesterday was "REALTOR'S Helping Seniors Day" in Sun City, Sun City West & Youngtown, AZ.  It was a wonderful day filled with many volunteer REALTORS, Affiliates, spouses and friends coming together to help some of our most forgotten citizens.  Seniors who are below poverty level.  Yes, they are home owners, most who purchased their homes when there were two retirement incomes and many of them with those  incomes  frozen at the retirement income level of the 1960's, 70' & 80's.  Spouse has now  died, income cut in half, Dr. medicine, and food has escalated but not their incomes.  Age keeps them from being able to physically do the things many of us take for granted.  Like washing their windows, inside and out, hard to do when you are using a walker.  Or the 92 year old former cabbie who can no longer take care of his yard and can't afford to hire it done.

This project has been ongoing for the last 7 years, received national recognition from both NAR and the "Make A Difference Day" organizations.  In September the WEMAR, West Maricopa Association of REALTORS, Board of Directors voted to discontinue the program.  Those of us involved with the program are still in a quandary as to why that decision was made.  It seems CHANGE is the key word of the year.

My thanks to everyone who has ever helped with REALTORS Helping Seniors Day.  Especially to our dedicated committee members, Sherry Becker-Grudizen, Estelle Pioro-Jewett, Brenda Quintina, Cindy Smith, Violet "Peaches" Hull, Walt Patterson, Cindy Smith, Sheri Parrott, Lori Reeves, Debbie Henderson and our annual Team Leaders Frank & Patricia Fox, Rowdy Dawson, and Jack Chalupka.  Each of these dedicated professionals has given for the last 7 years to help make this event a success. Our new committee members Rick, Jami, Anthony, & Rhett thank you for your hard work this year.  And to the unnamed volunteers you are all much much appreciated.

The Make a Difference program was a great program that helped the indigent and elderly.  Perhaps the board will rethink the decision.

Glad to see y'all caring for the community.

Here in Central Kentucky we have the Realtor Community Housing Foundation that does stuff like that.

Realtor Community Housing Foundation, Lexingtion, KY

The Realtor®-Community Housing Foundation (RCHF) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization incorporated in 1992 established from the Community Service Committee of the Lexington-Bluegrass Association of Realtors (LBAR) and several community partnerships. Members of this partnership include Realtors®, the Remodelers Council of the Home Builders Association of Lexington, businesses, civic clubs, churches, caring individuals, students and educators. By fostering a community commitment, RCHF's goal is to empower families and strengthen neighborhoods by assisting homeowners in need to be able to stay in their homes and help single-parent graduates of the Viriginia Place program become first-time home owners.

Erby, thank you for the information.

We do work thru the Arizona Senior Needs Foundation a 501(c)(3).  All of our monies, which were raised by the realtors & affiliates are deposited with and disbursed with them.  We are hoping another group will step up and take over this very worthy program.

Just because a board made the decision to discontinue the event, does that mean it has to stop?

Andrew, Thanks for the question.  I have not been here for obviously a long time.  No the program does not have to stop

IF #1 another entity comes forward to assume the very limited  support and staff that WeMAR has provided.

#2Another group of REALORS and affiliates want to take on the task.

There are still some funds left to be used ONLY for Senior housing in Sun City, Sun City West and Youngtown.  That is where the funds that were raised were designated to be used.

If you or anyone else you know want more info and to take over the program contanct me @
