Making Your Blog More "Readable" Or They Have To Finish Reading It Before They Comment

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Homes and Gardens Rand Realty

You may have noticed that some posts are easier on the eyes than others.  It is hard to read something with small font that just goes on and on and on and on......  If you want to attract more readers to actually read what you are writing then you need to learn the value of WHITE SPACE and adding visual interest with photos or Bloggingclip art.  If a blog title catches someone's eye they will click on it to read more.  When they click you have about 10 seconds or less to entice them to read the whole post and make a comment.  If it appears that it will take too long to read or feels too overcrowded with only words and nothing that pops up to grab them they will not hang around for the end of the story.

One way to spice things up is to increase font size or add a new font style by using an outside editor to prepare your posts then transfer them to your blog.  Scribefire is one such editor.  Check it out.  But if you don't want to take the time to do that simply space things out a little more.  Add an extra space between paragraphs.  Put a photo or clipart (make sure you have the right to use the clipart please) and you are going to see an increase in readers who visit you.

Check out the same paragraph written on the standard ActiveRain WYSIWYG tab

BORING!!!  But add a graphic and a little white space and they will be reading your stuff easier, sticking with you longer, and ultimately commenting more.

So with a little thought and some slight changes in the way you are blogging you can achieve some amazing things.  I wish you luck as you spend some time finding your own unique style.

Paddy, I wasn't sure how to create larger fonts.  I'll check out the site you recommended, I do agree it looks MUCH better and is certainly easier on the eyes.

Thank you for this post Paddy(and I read it all three times in the different styles).  I just wondered that if you became a Rainmaker you would have the font and color options, but I guess not.  Thanks!!

You are so right. I've learned to use a larger font and to break up my paragraphs into smaller bites. Small changes, but they do make a difference!

It is an extra step Carole.  I use Nvu editor for my posts but apparently it has changed online and is more work than this ScribeFire is easy!

Thanks Li!

Thank you Richard.  We all need to breathe!

Hey Sharon.  I can show you the editors I use if you like.  Have a great time on AR

Good for you Rich.

Why thank you Greg

I can't help you there Michael.  I don't think there is much white space in there anyway.
