Wren High School named Champion of the Environment

Wren High School in Piedmont has won a Champions of the Environment grant from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control for efforts to spread the word about water pollution prevention.

The Anderson District One school’s project involves almost a quarter of the student body.  It includes water quality testing, researching water pollution causes, writing and illustrating water quality messages, and translating pollution prevention messages into other languages spoken in the community.

Wren High will get a $2,000 cash grant.  The school also receives Champions give-away items, will be featured on the Champions’ Web site, and will have its project publicized in a commercial aired on WIS-TV in Columbia and WCSC-TV in Charleston.

Champions of the Environment supports environmental action by South Carolina’s kindergarten through 12th grade students with its grant awards.  Champions is sponsored by DHEC, Eastman Chemical Company, International Paper, WCSC-TV and WIS-TV, with assistance from the Environmental Education Association of South Carolina.
