Wow, That Was A Surprise! Look What I Just Saw in Our Front Yard in Ozark Missouri!

By
Real Estate Agent with Southwest Missouri Realty

I was sitting at the computer blogging away a few minutes ago and happend to look out the window. Look what was in our front yard! Our home is on a hill that overlooks the Finley River Valley here in Ozark Missouri. We are fortunate to live in town and it feels like we are in the country.

We have all kinds of wildlife and really enjoy it. The only bad thing is we have lost a couple of nice trees because the deer scraped on them! We see the deer a lot at night but I've never seen them this brave during the day before.Deer In Our Front Yard

Betty & John,

That is no mystery why the BUCK is out during daylight hours - it's RUTTING SEASON. They've got one thing and only one thing on their mind - SEX. They is why the RUT (scrape) the trees they are trying to attract females so they can hopefully get some action. I learned the hard way to put netting around my young trees and saplings I want to protect. We live at the beach in NC and have lots of deer too.

When they come out that early in the day they must be hungry. Ours do their damage either very early in the morning or just after dusk. Thanks for sharing

Kathryn -  You are correct it is Rutting Season and they love strutting their stuff!  They also love our trees.  We either place metal fencing post around them or we have also wrapped carpet around the trunk until Spring!

Burce - It was such a pleasure watching him all afternoon.  We first saw him around 3:00 and when I left at 6:30 he was still grazing.

Ed - Usually they don't hang around this early, it truly was a treat!  In a few days they won't want to hang around Ozark Missouri! Ha

Karen - When we first move to our home we left our garage door open about 6", for our outside cat.  We quickly came to the conclusion that we had to add a cat door.  We ended up with everything from skunks to possums.
