Passing the torch
Real estate is one of these unique businesses where your friends and family are your clients. Then, they refer their friends and family to you if you serve them well. All your business is conducted around your family a great deal of the time, especially if you are a Mom. Once your children reach young adulthood, it can be amazing how much they pick up by osmosis. The day will come when they may surprise you: something along the lines of, "Well, I've gone to college, got my degree, been working a couple years, but I think I'll get my real estate license." The little wheels in your head will turn considering all the possibilities; a family team, my newest buyer's agent, even "Oh, no, I hope she doesn't expect me to hire her. I can't work that closely with my child, can I? Sure, we'd be great together, right?" We want to do everything we can to help them, but realistically have to look at it as a business decision. My own mother was a Realtor. I grew up with it as well. However, by the time came that I decided to get my license, I lived in another state. Still, my Mom was very proud; and now that she has gone on, I am very proud to wear her Realtor pin along with my own side by side on my lapel. My daughter took the review class today in preparation for taking her state exam. She passed her class exam with an "A". She is so smart and quick, not to mention beautiful, and I'm not just saying that cause I'm her Mom!!! She really is. It does amaze me that I had a hand in raising such an outstanding young lady. I feel like Erkol, "Did I do that?!" Wow! So we will see what the future brings. She is also looking into taking some post-graduate law classes and getting involved in real estate law. All I know is she is capable of accomplishing whatever she sets her mind to. And, I will always be proud of her too. That Motherly Pride is a torch I can definitely pass on. Who knows, maybe the Realtor torch will get passed as well.
