Frustration and Honesty

“When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty being a self sacrifice – you may know that your society is doomed” Ayn Rand Lately, I have dealt with more and more clients who came to me as not only a real estate professional but as a consultant- feeling they are doomed whether it be credit issues or owing more on a property than its worth. “Why is the price so low? “How many foreclosures are there in the development? Is the DEVELOPER strong or are there financing issues? Is it safe for me to turn my escrow money over to this company?” Frustration with the market, with taxes, with banks, and the government is a lot for sellers in a declining market to face. Sellers might feel they have no say- they are amazed at the price they need to list their property at. Some are even upset that other forces are setting price. This is why it is more important than ever for us as realtors to be honest and up front with our clients. The more honest we our up front the easier the journey to closing is for our clients. WE know market conditions and are the experts… thus becoming a consultant. We care about the clients’ needs and feelings. Today’s unusual circumstances such as short sales are tiring and emotional hurdles for many sellers. The frustrations of dealing with lending institutes who don’t respond as quickly as we sellers, buyers, and Realtors want is exasperating for some. We must remember that we are in this to help people find property that they truly want, and will be happy with after they close -not just to find property to close a deal. This is the case even if it means writing 10 contracts; working on a short sale for months on end; or even solving problems with lenders for loan to purchase. The more we also recognize that our jobs are changing everyday from not only agent but to that of a consultant from everything from decorating to taxes and finding rental properties ,we can help connect with our clients better and help guide them through what can be some pretty stormy seas if not approached positively and with experience. “The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous will come through trouble…He who speaks truth declares righteousness, but a false witness, deceit.
