The Answer Is - Dog Beach, Parking Meters and Credit Cards

By

The Question Is:  What is the newest innovation in the City of Huntington Beach?  Parking meters at Dog Beach that take credit cards!  Remember when you were a little kid and your Mom or Dad let you put the coin in the parking meter?  That was such a thrill.  Well, that's inflation for you.  What used to be paid in coins now can be paid using your credit card.

The City of Huntington Beach has just installed 15 meters at Dog Beach as part of a pilot program.  Two other cities are sharing in this pilot program, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.  The new machines will still take coins just like the old ones, but they'll also take debit, Visa and MasterCard.

By the way, the rates are still the same, 25 cents for 10 minutes and you don't have to go to the drive thru just to get some change.

Here's a photo taken at Dog Beach on the First Friday of Summer.  Ya' gotta love it!

That's neat they have a beach for doggies. Kind of like designated places here. I guess that's a good thing to have meters. Otherwise, a bunch of people just get all discouraged and they're afraid to get a ticket so doggie ends up going back home...bummer.

Sally - This is a wonderful beach.  There are even volunteers who have baskets of tennis balls and frisbees if the doggie parents didn;t bring their own,  Really a gret sight to see so many happy four-legged friends enjoying the beach and the surf.

It's one of the few beaches in So Cal that allow dogs..  I love the idea of meters using credit cards.. we are experimenting with meters that take a pre-paid key..

Kaye - Prepaid key is a great idea, too.  And, yes, this is one of the few beaches that allow dogs.  It gives me great joy to see these dogs and their owner's having so much fun together.  It gives me the same peaceful and happy feeling that I get from watching the fish in a pretty aquarium.  Thanks for your input on this.

Hey Linda - Yup, they sure do.  We've take a break from bike rides a few times.  It sure is a fun spot to watch people and their dogs having a great time.

I think it's great idea. I rarely have any money on me. I think the Dog Beach is a great resource as well.

Ashley - This is a great idea.  It probably would have saved me a couple of parking tickets!

Ana- Yup progress!  Only 15 meters so far, but I'll bet they'll be replacing all of them eventually.
