Nassau County,N.Y. Property Homeowners Lead Tax Revolt at the Polls!

By

The Republican Party has re-established control of the county legislature. Homeowners have demonstrated their fury at the voting polls over high property taxes and other tax related issues. The new legislature will need to reduce the tax burden placed on businesses and homeowners during these difficult economic times. What does this mean to me, a Realtor? Plenty! To have fair assesments on properties coupled with lower taxes all around, I believe, will stimulate the housing market sooner than later at least here on Long Island. Currently, Nassau and Suffolk Counties are the among the highest in property and school taxes.

According to the Long Island Press, Nassau County is the second highest property taxed county in the nation.  Many times I have heard "I will not move to Nassau because of the taxes."  Fair assessment with lower tax bases should lead to an improvement. Thank you for the link.
