Floridians:

I just got a letter back from Senator Lee Constantine regarding the letter I sent (and posted) Steal This Letter . Anyways, the fight is still on and you can have a voice.

If you would like to see how your own home would be impacted by the new proposal, go here and see what your savings would be. Proposed Property Tax Calcultor. In my humble opinion it's not nearly enough. I'm constantly amazed at much money the counties have taken in and how little we get in return. These out of control taxes threaten real estate in every way!

I figured my own house, and I'll save about $600 bucks per year. I'll take it, but something has to be done about the taxes for folks who buy a home. I'm paying abou $4,000 a year and my neighbor with the same size house is paying almost $7,000!

What are they doing with our money? Our school systems are still ranked among the lowest nationally. Traffic is horrendous. What gives?

Anyways, enjoy the calculator,

Good Link-thank you. While the initial offering will save homeowners money, the concern is in the verbage  under the Super Sized reduction suggests "the governing body" would have the option to impose tax increases to cover revenue deficiencies. Which means, if the average homeowner gives up the current Save Our Homes protection which limits increases to 3% the "governing body" with a 2/3 majority could in fact impose increases after the fact without the benefit of a public vote. Further of concern is that once selected to abandon the current protection, a homeowner cannot reverse the decision. Once opted out you are out. However, a protected tax payer can opt in at anytime.  It is a risky proposal, in my humble opinion.

That's unfortunate. I can't see where our 100% increase in taxes has gotten us anything. It's a slow beaurocratic government that's unable to manage HUGE increases to the county coffers. I don't stand in any lines for any county services now. I do know this, the people on this site and the homeowners we all serve are seriously impacted by these outrageous taxes.

All the best,

Dan Dowling

P.S. I thought you were here because you were a real estate stager. Which is it? County employee or stager? If you're gonna serve the real estate needs of folks in this state, better get on board with what helps them instead of listening to some county supervisor whine about lines. I'll save $600 bucks a year. What fees could possibly go up that much? You know there are countries that openly practice socialism.

No, working two jobs is awesome. Hard work is what this country was built upon. What's disturbing is your point of view that higher real estate taxes are good! It's bad for the homeowners of the state and the professionals who support families of their own. This is a blog for real estate professionals. Do you think higher real estate taxes will get you more staging business or less? Do you see how it puts a damper on real estate sales and the ability of every hardworking family to afford a place to live?

Maybe you'd be better off posting to a government employees site. Or a socialist blog.

I'm not completely understanding why you are voting against a tax break, and would trade it for more insurance breaks. (I think we need both) Didn't you mention in a previous post that you worked the insurance industry too?

I'm not quite sure where your "little people" comment comes from. Are you confusing this blog with someone else's?

Anyway I wish you all the best,

Dan

Terry,

I'm sorry to hear about you losing your 2nd job with the county. I'm confused, though, as to why you are losing your job. The tax base has almost doubled from 4 years ago.  The tax cuts that were proposed were only a small portion of that.

Maybe I'm mis-informed and if so, I sincerely apologize.  I'm not an economic genius (thats Dan's job) but I did run a resort business before starting my own real estate business. One of the most important things I learned, the hard way, is that the more you give someone, the less they will appreciate it and the less they will work for it.

Our country was built on sound principles. "No Work, No food" was one of the first ones set by John Smith, I think.  I believe in helping people who need help, not people who live above their own means or are lazy. I've never taken a handout and never will.

It's time for the gov't to stop mis-managing our money. Crist is not perfect, but I don't believe that giving the gov't more money is ever a solution to anything.

I have been telling everyone I know to contact their legislators and the governor to do something about these high taxes.  My rental properties have become alligators because of the high taxes.  Keep up the good work.  The more we scream, the better chance these guys will actually do something to help.
