Electricians & Rednecks should NOT do plumbing repairs!

By
Home Inspector with B4 U Close Home Inspections&Radon Testing (www.b4uclose.com)

Sometimes, when this ole Lexington Kentucky Home Inspector is conducting a home inspection, I see things that just leave me speechless for quite awhile.

Lexington Kentucky Home Inspectors plumbing w/ tapeHere's one of those speechless Kentucky Home Inspector moments from yesterday.

For sure, electricians (electrical tape) and rednecks (duct tape) have no clue on how to hold plumbing pipes in place as designed.

When you get an electrician and a redneck on the same plumbing job, often in the same body, this is the kind of repair that results!

For more cockamamie home inspection photos, you can visit my B4 U Close Home Inspections Cockamamie Photo Album.

Yeah, I know it was a homeowner fix, not an electrician.

One of those Git Er Dun Good Nuff moments.

It's so much easier on me when I find the Git Er Dun Right stuff

I think the current owners are a little angry about the thorough inspection you did. They didn't have one done and it cost them $18K.  I, my loan officer and my agent think a home inspection is well worth what I paid.

Thank You for the outstanding job you did on the inspection.  We bought and sold 9 houses and this was the only inspection that was ever done properly.  It was helpful and we will use it to do the repairs with a system, instead of the guess work we usually do.  Thanks again

Erby:

All of your photos are very enlightening. It is amazing how so many people think duct tape and drip pans are a cure for everything.

Erby - But if the guy is a red neck and electrician, then he'd probably know how to make the repair : )

Dude Duct Tape ROCKS! I'm originally from the South so I too have sen just about everything under the sun with duct tape on it. Soesn't surprise me a bit that they would use it for plumbing too.

Erby,

I went into a home one time and we actually negotiated a deal but when we asked them to replace the water heater the listing agent asked why.  I asked her if she had seen it and she said no.  So I then explained that the top half of this hot water heater was totally encased in duct tape.  Then if you push on the tape you can feel the rust give way underneath the duct tape.

'That is too funny.  My brother is a home inspector and he loves when he finds "repairs" such as this.

When you need it done right and done right now!

We have seen this soooo many times. The worst is when we saw duct tape on a crack in the foundation.

Dennis:  I don't have a clue.  Come up with a mechanical addtion!

Tracie:  Duct Tape fixes anything, temporarily!

Russel:  Wrong!  See above.  Hey, at least it was a red brush, same one I use on my neck!

Claudette:  Glad you enjoyed the photos. It gets people to hang around my website a little longer.

Jeani:  We had a good laugh.  I'm glad y'all here did too!  But I note:  You find it in the city too!  It's not just the rural areas that fix stuff this way.

John:  He did know how.  He did it. See the photo above!

Fernando:  Yup!

Steven:  If you have a quality product like Duct Tape, why the heck do you want to use electrical tape too!  Kind of an insult to duct tape, ya know!

Gary:  You can.  Thanks for stopping by.

Larry:  See above.  Duct tape fixes ANYTHING!

Carla:  You got it RIGHT!  Congrats and thanks for coming back and re adding the link.  It's a good one.

Diane:  I do.  Funny though, it was in a fourteen year old cedar sided home in a nice neghborhood.  Rest of the house was pretty neat.

Stephanie:  It does.  You're husband is right, temporarily.

Damon:  We do get to see some neat (as in funny, hilarious, uproaring laughter) stuff!

Jerry:  Duct tape can fix anything, even a foundation!

Leilani:  Nope:  He'd be giving them a gold star for their efforts.

Ha HAAA! The omments here have been as funny as the post! I agree that we are (proudly) painted with the same brush and I know I can trust an inspector who uses the term "cockamamie"! Thanks again.

Hey Russell, it's a hilarious topic, ya know.  Cockamamie just seemed appropirate for the album title because of what it contains.

Now that was hilarious. I've used duct tape for many fixes but not to this extreme.
