Say What???
Yep, that's right. I have 3 bassets and 2 whites. All purebreds and all rescued. All spayed or neutered. They are our kids.
With the title I was hoping to pull you into a distressing situation at hand. With all the foreclosures and short sales and job losses, the animals are suffering the most.
A distressing news report from Fox News with Julie Banderas reported that not 4 million as previously thought, but 10 million pets (according to the Humane Society of America) are being euthanized yearly now for the past couple of years. In other words, since the economy crashed. I, like Julie, carry a heavy heart for our animals that can't speak for themselves...so I am doing it for them.
California has been hit the worst and the government is cutting back from 6 days now to only 3 days for a pet to stay in the humane societies or animal control centers before being euthanized. It is suppose to save Californians 26 million dollars. Sooooo, if you have lost your pet, and are desperate to find it, then you have 3 days to do so or it's gone. I couldn't bear that with mine.
My plea is that if you've always wanted to adopt a pet, do so. If you have one, adopt another. If you have two, then get that third one, and if you have four, you could be like me and get that fifth one. If you simply must have a purebred, then go to the individual sites for that specified breed. Good dogs, no great dogs are waiting for you. Thanks for caring and I speak for the animals. debra edwards, Cashiers, NC www.edwardsbuildersandrealty.com
