Im Shocked!  Very frustrated!

Our client allowed a buyer to have a key to a duplex we had listed and go in the duplex every day they wanted to 2 weeks before closing.

We fund and record. We immediately go out to get our keybox off the door.  Its missing.  Its gone.

We call the agent immediately to find out where we can get it. He said he would ask the buyer.  2 weeks later we have to call him still he says, Ohh I found the keybox and will get it for you.  3 weeks later, we call his broker and him since he wasnt returning our phone calls asking when we can pick it up.  The agent tells us he doesnt want to deal with this situation...he doesnt want to call his buyer...he doesnt want to talk to us.  And we should just eat it.  People have lost signs and keyboxes all the time...so eat it he says and he hangs up on me.

I dont get it.  If my buyer took another agents keybox off the door. I would be hounding my buyer to get it to me.  If my buyer refused to get it to me. Id tell the other agent...sorry man, my buyer wont help me out.  But for an agent to tell me, Im not going to call my buyer...IM not going to give you their info.  Im not dealing with it anymore so just eat it and hang up?

What do you do with that?

I'm speechless, but I don't know what else there is to do short of filing a complaint with the BOR.  Is it worth it???

Sometimes the negligence exhibited by agents is astounding.

Clean version: did you try to look up the buyer's info and get his #?

Dirty version: tell him to eat <place anything you want here>

In his mind he's thinking he has his commission and it's a done deal. Who cares. Total jerk. Just remember him the next time you may have to deal with him and remember one word: KARMA!

Have you gone to the property and met with the new buyers?  Chances are they will not be impressed with the way their agent has handled things.  Don't bad mouth him, just tell the truth.  Chances are if the key box is still there the buyer will hand it to you, tell you he hasn't heard from their agent either and you'll have a new source of referral business.

Yep......I agree with Dan. Just go knock on the door. They'll probably gladly give you back your box.

I dont think a complaint is worth it.  Its jus poor service and lazinees.  Nothing ethical or illegal.  Nor bad mouthing them is worth it.  Hence, I dont state their name.  They are out of town buyers and put renters in there.  The agents broker is going to call them for me now so we will take it from there. Thanks.

Dave, that is terrible. I was going to recommend calling the agent's manager, and that sounds like what you did. Hopefully the broker will be able to get to the bottom of this...

Good luck!

Hi Dave,

I have had this happen twice in a row with the old lockboxes... I guess it took me two times to change my procedures.  The buyers cut the box and tossed it the day they moved in, how they found the time and why is beyond me.  I now take the box off after appraisal and inspection deadline.  Its a sad deal when people do this.  Its the same with signs and wanting to toss them.  I had a buyer of mine call once and say they were going to throw the other agents sign in the dumpster.... (it had only been a couple days since they moved in) I told them not to or they would have to pay to replace it.  I just don't think people realize the cost involved and they plain don't think or care.....  I hope you get it back and I hope some of the agents around here realize that Karma will come back ten fold.  Best wishes and keep up the good work.
