St. Augustine will Soon Sparkle

Real Estate Agent with Riverside Homes

My favorite time of year is almost here, winter in St. Augustine, the Nation’s Oldest City. When the sun goes down, millions of white lights will soon create a magical holiday atmosphere throughout the historic Downtown district. The 16th Annual Nights of Lights Celebration in St. Augustine, Florida begins November 21st and lasts through January 31st. Business as well as homes in St. Augustine will be illuminated during the event.

I remember talking with St. Augustine City Commissioner, Bill Lennon, when he introduced this tradition toNights of lights the City Council about 18 years ago. He wanted to transform the city into a winter wonderland that the locals could come out and enjoy as well as attract visitors from far and wide. This Spanish town had a tradition of displaying a lighted white candle during the Christmas holidays and today’s Nights of Lights display reflects the city’s 444-year history while creating a magical stage for all to take pleasure in.

During the weeks of the event, you will find a dazzling assortment of special events and activities. Here is what is planned:

-Nighttime tours of ancient buildings and inns led by storytellers in period clothing
-Evening train and trolley tours through the narrow laminated brick streets
-First Friday Art Walk featuring more than 30 galleries serving free holiday refreshment
-Special Saturday night antique shopping events
-A dazzling regatta
-Florida ice skating
-Luminaries in the town plaza
-Holiday concerts
-Christmas parade

The Nights of Lights will sparkle in St. Augustine through January 31 so you have plenty of time to come out and enjoy the festivities.  See you Downtown,

You have to love Christmas lights shinning bright in a city, town square, common or most important on homes with the snow on the ground!

I live in New England and my favorite time of year is the fall foliage.

Have a good day,
