HAVE THE KLEENEX READY!

By
Real Estate Agent with Orlando Area Real Estate Services

I can barely contain myself. Barely hold back the tears. You see after those poor Acorn people lost funding - millions of Dollars in funding - someone decided that Congress had breached the Constitution!

Yesterday the Community Organisers - made famous on all kinds of levels - filed suit against the Federal Government. It claimed that the revealing "prostitute" videos where a young couple posing as a Hooker and her pimp were offered all kinds of illegal advice on how to obtain housing and a loan - was used by Congress to "convict" the group and therefore take away its funding.

Anyone need a Kleenex yet? No? Me neither.

Thursday's lawsuit claims that Congress violated the right to due process enshrined in the Fifth Amendment -- declaring the group guilty of a crime and punishing its members without completing an investigation within the Department of Justice or the IRS. "It's not the job of Congress to be the judge, jury, and executioner," said Jules Lobel, an attorney representing the Center for Constitutional Rights. That from Fox News.

So now I guess more Federal tax Dollars will be spent on this group - this time fighting them over OUR money.

We all of course hope that the Federal Government puts up a strong defense. It's just hard to sleep knowing that Acorn is feeling the pinch. Maybe I should send them something? Some "change" perhaps? Maybe that will lead to "hope" for them?

How can you sue the federal government? I thought they came under administrative law and that is handled totally different. I know this to be true for teachers and other government employees.

I'm shocked and saddened that it took two young inexperienced reporters to blow the lid on this hideous scandal.  they uncovered more in a few videos than all the political watchdogs put together.  Acorn should lose their non-profit status.

Simon - it's very curious that this story is being ignored by the MSM.  If this were in any way related to the Republicans, Waxman will be all over it and so does the media.

Perhaps we should file a "Friend of the Court" brief... and sue ACORN for all legal fees to us and the government.

Simon -

I think somebody should look long and hard at invoking the RICOH statute against these cockroaches.

We've got several of their people, from multiple offices, spread out all over the country - ON VIDEO - involved in what appears to me to be a number of conspiracies - conspiracy to commit tax fraud; conspiracy to commit mortgage fraud; conspiracy to smuggle illegal aliens; conspiracy to transport minors across state lines; conspiracy to engage in prostitution; and who knows what else...

And the government uses RICOH all the time to hold gang members and the Mafia accountable for the crimes of their fellow members, so it seems to me that they should be able to use it in this case to go after the leaders of ACORN - and perhaps past leaders, too?  But with Holder as AG, I'm not holding my breath on this - but then again, if enough people, were to make enough noise, who knows?

Pretty ridiculous.  Where is it in the Constitution that the federal government is even allowed to give handouts to non-profit groups.  Sounds like their funding is in direct violation of the 10th amendment.

Rob: Religious organizations have been getting federal dollars for years. I believe they should not be receiving our tax dollars either.

Religious organizations do not offer to help "pimp out" young girls smuggled in to the country for the sex trade, nor do they teach brothel owners how to file illegal tax returns in order to buy a home.

Churches get limited tax breaks because of the GOOD WORK they do in the community.  Helping the homeless, the hungry and the abused.

Acorn got busted, fair and square, accept it.

Scott: I'd love to see a list of those organizations.... or just some. If this is true, I'd agree.

Simon: As for ACORN, I believe they will just be the tip of the corruption iceberg. We were fortunate enough to be asked to go and witness a friend we've helped in our local homeless shelter receive baptism at her church. I won't name it, but it was an inner city church and mostly minorities. We were very welcomed and it happened to be a couple of days before the last presidential election. They had a nice speech from someone in the congregation about how Obama was the man and if anyone were interested to help in the campaign to go upstairs to the Obama Headquarters and sign up. UPSTAIRS in the church building! Needless to say, we were a bit amazed by it all. A church can't profess any side, but as long as you rent space to them, I guess it's alright. The pastor did say he couldn't tell you who to vote for, but urged everyone to go and vote their conscience on Tues. and if you could help that they still needed volunteers... sure sounded like we knew who he was going to vote for.

ACORN is dirty.  There is no doubt.  They use veils and layers to cover themselves, but a good team of forensic accountants would probably turn up enough dirt to fill the white house...

And Scott, why shouldn't churches be allowed to get funding?

Scott , I cant imagine a church accepting federaL funding because then you have tio accept the federal regulations that go with it.personall I don't think the federal govt should fund anything but the military

Well, let's start with the Salvation Army.

According to the White House, nonprofit groups received $15.3 billion in competitive grants in fiscal year 2007, an increase of 3.9% over the previous year. That figure included $2.2 billion to faith-based nonprofits, which have received federal grants of more than $10.6 billion since the initiative got underway in 2002.

Lane: Why on earth should churches receive federal funding or for that matter and public funding? The slippery slope then hit with which relgious organizations are receiving money. There are plenty of "religions" out there.

Scott just show what is wrong with this country.  Pimps and Crooks are put on the same level as churches.  This is what a "Values" free country gets us.

I wonder what ACORNS legal theory is.  I have not seen it.

Defending Acorn? Don't think so. Many churches are just as criminal Churches should lose their tax-exempt status as well.
