No Rain? Bring on the Bugs!

By

Just finished reading an article about our area concerning the long dry spell we have been enjoying (?).  As a consequence to this protracted dry period, bugs and other pests are seeking out water as their habitats dry up.  As a result, pest control services have seen as much as a 20% increase in their service calls to residences.

There are no concrete solutions, but here are a few:

1.  Pest control services (kind of an obvious one that wasn't mentioned in the article).

2.  Keep the area outside the home watered (preferably away from the foundation).

3.  Install doorsweeps and ensure doors and windows are tightly sealed.

4.  Cut back the brush away from the home to remove hiding areas.

As far as real estate sales goes, these efforts will provide multiple benefits including making the home more secure, aesthetically pleasing,  and value added by utilizing pest control services.  All good selling points.

Technology bringing you home.

Great post David!  I have noticed the bugs out more - especially at outdoor restaurants.  I guess we will have to wear the bug spray for the fireworks in the square this year again!  Great solutions to help us out.  Many thanks.

We just had a visit today from our friendly pest control guy. That is what our exterminator also toldus...because of dry weather the bugs are out in full force.

Isn't it strange?  I would have thought just the opposite:  Wet weather = more bugs.
