Cheap Headboard Idea

By
Home Stager with Judy Heinrich Home Staging

Last week I had a great house to stage... full of new furniture and very little decor! And, of course, on a budget. One of the bedrooms just had two twin beds on the floor, bedding, night stand and a blue lamp (wish I could have used a different one).  I wanted to find something different for the "headboards" that was still inexpensive.  The solution... garden trellis from Walmart.  $19.97 each, plus a can of white spray paint.  Unfortunately the pictures don't show them as well as they look in person but you get the general idea.

Great idea...I too have used this idea, but used a wooden trellis sideways.  I just don't have a picture to share.

In my home I needed a screen to create a curved wall in the bedroom and went to a salvage yard to find 3 inserts that you use in a wooden screen door. Picked them up for $6 each and put hinges to fasten them together. I used tracing paper that I bought at Michael's to fill in the squares (glued along the edge with Elmers). The paper allows the light to filter but very inexpensive. Final cost was under $20. This post makes me wonder how I can turn them into headboards....HMMMMMM

Great job and great ideas....

Thanks everyone for looking and commenting!

Terry - I've thought of trying that before with the lattice... have any pictures to share?

Nicola - I suppose you could attach them to the bedrails but I don't think they were quite wide enough, or just use nails and hang them on the wall like you would hang another piece of artwork.

Reece - Did you paint the trellis or leave it natural?

Cheri - Can you post a picture?  That sounds very creative!

Sandra - Now that the "garden" season is coming to an end in the stores, they might be harder to locate.

The trellises add the height that the furniture lacks. Well done. I love this charming idea! I might even use it at home, since I am anti-footboard and love changing things around so much. Gardening items should be on clearance soon (although at $20 who can complain)? Looks like it was a fun project to make and shop for.

Judy this is so smart! Not only are they inexpensive and look great , they are easily transportable, pull the eye upward, and don't take up any floor space. Brilliant idea!

These are a great idea! I did this same thing for my daughter room but I found an old iron gratea junk yard. It was a lawge one and we paid $20 for it. We spray painted it and you can even put small vines flowers etc in it.
