What a beautiful sight and day for the last Shuttle Launch for 2009! The 129th launch, right on time, on the first try in 8 1/2 minutes from from flight to orbit! Atlantis flew with 6 astronauts to the ISS and will return with 7. The 12 day mission is to resupply the ISS. There are 5 final Shuttles planned for 2010! If you ever want to see one, plan ahead for 2010.
I will miss the rumbles and unique vibrations of these awesome events. We moved to Titusville "temporarily" in 1965. I am still here and still enjoy the Space launches and news. Watching the Birds fly is really something grande. Each is differfent and I try not to miss them. I did miss Challenger though. I live only 8 blocks from the Indian River so if I cannot make it there, I can also see most of it from my driveway. I hear the kids from the elementary school a block away as well as many neighbors cheering them on. We are so proud of all of them... all of those who live and work in the Space Industry. I was not able to get a good shot myself today due to some clouds.
I will miss those launches. And I will miss many families whose jobs will be ending and their new work will likely take them out of this area. But many may be ready to move into retirement and continue to enjoy Titusville and the Florida Space Coast Living! I am already getting inquiries from folks planning to come this winter and find their own affordable retirement place in Paradise!
