Cashtown Inn-Bed & Breakfast- History and Fine Dining Combine In Adams County, Pa
A wonderful thing happened to Adams County in January of 2006, Jack & Maria Paladino purchased the historic Cashtown Inn-Bed & Breakfast and set about to make the inn one of the top dining establishments in the Adams County Area. Large scale renovations were completed on the building as well as the menu; the finished product in both cases has been a resounding success.
The Inn was originally built in 1797 by Peter Mark and was known then as the Cashtown Hotel. The only acceptable form of payment allowed by the innkeeper was cash, at the time "cash" was considered gold or silver coinage, not the paper form that we know today. The practice earned the Inn the nickname Cashtown for the Hotel as well as the surrounding community. The Cashtown Hotel flourished as a stage stop and toll house, providing room and board as well needed provisions.
The Cashtown Inn-Bed & Breakfast is most famous today for its role in the battle of Gettysburg, although the Inn was occupied by Gen. Jeb Stuart for a short time in 1862; it wasn't until the great battle that the Inn leaped into the history books. In late June and early July the Inn became headquarters to Generals, A.P. Hill, Henry Heth, and John Imboden. Hill's Third Corps became temporary residents of the little community of Cashtown, and the rest is history.
Today the Cashtown Inn-Bed &Breakfast has 4 guest rooms and 3 suites available for lodging. The tavern and newly renovated Victorian dining room are open for lunch and dinner Tuesday thru Saturday offering innovative and creative menu choices.
