North Carollina ( Finally ) Bans Texting while Driving 12-1-09

Although teens have been banned from this practice for the last two years, the updated North Carolina law comes into effect December 1, 2009 prohibiting all drivers from texting while driving... Horray!

This has been a concern of mine for quite some time as I have been at close "call" with a driver not paying attention that nearly collided with me on the road traveling at 55 mph. Very scary.

It is quite the era for "instant everything" but please remember the safety of others and put into reality all the horrific accidents we've seen on TV related to TWD (texting while driving ). Talk to your kids, share this with your friends and most importantly---take this law seriously. It could be your life saved or the lives of others around you.

Yes! I am so glad to finally see this. I was involved in a serious accident back in April where I was rear-ended, pushing my car into the opposite lane, then hit by a truck. I was knocked unconscious and didn't even remember seeing it, but the witnesses at the scene said the driver was looking down at his phone, probably texting, and did not even seem to see my car in the lane - he was going over 60mph, which totalled my Jeep and put me in the hospital for over a week, but was not held liable for any of it because I was in "his" lane at the time, and he was not doing anything illegal, other than minor speeding.I have seen so many crazy drivers around here texting, even on interstate, and I hope this will make things a little safer for the other drivers on the road.

wow.. Raine, that is a terrible story! I am glad you have recovered and wonder if a 100 dollar fine is adequate after hearing your situation. I have read some texters take their eyes off the road for 10 sec at a time...can you imagine!

I think driving while putting on make up should also be against the law.  That's not what that mirror is for.  :-)

You know I was telling my BFF the other day that I could not text her back while I was driving because it was easier to do on my former blackberry than it is my iPhone!  She said her husband is trying to get her on an iPhone but I discouraged her with that sentence.  I told her texting on the road is a bad idea anyways!  Sometimes I check my emails when I am stuck in a traffic light and if there is something urgent (and I won't be near my computer anytime soon) I will pull over to text or email.  Otherwise it can wait.  It's my life and others' on the road, we need to be careful!
