As we approach that wonderful holiday that thanksgiving is, I just want to share with everyone something that has helped me greatly throughout the years.
But first let me tell you why Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday... For most of you it is an occasion to be with family & friends, sharing a delicious dinner with traditionnal dishes. With my family scattered around the globe (France, Vietnam, the Philippines & my daughter in Missouri while we are in Hawaii), in my 31 years of mariage, we have never had a big family Thanksgiving dinner! Yet this Holiday is dear to me because of it's meaning. It is a time to pause & reflect on all the things we appreciate. It is a Holiday devoid of material gift giving, when we are thankful for what we have... material possessions & people in our lives!
People sometime comment on how always cheerful & content I am and my secret lies in the deep appreciation I have for being alive in this world. Hardly a day goes by without me being grateful! I am even grateful for the people with a harsh or negative attitude, because they give me a valuable lesson. The buddhist say"love your ennemy". Try it & see how it makes you feel! Did you know that in chinese the character "crisis" is made of the symbols for danger & opportunity?
For some of us this past year has been particularly hard. The economic climate has put many of us in a crisis situation & you may wonder what is left to be thankful for. When you start making a list of material belongings, people in your life & the memories you have of joyous times, you'll realise that you still have a lot and that the crisis may open the door to new opportunities.
Hawaiian have a great attitude toward life. They bless everything: the flowers for their beauty & fragrance, the Ocean, the mountains, the winds... That makes them focus on something positive and in effect, changes their own vibration. They open themselves up to receive more blessings as they bless things.
My challenge to you is to try this... and open yourself to the bounty of the universe. Celebrate Thanksgiving every day!
