Great attendance this past Tuesday at the recently held forum on Lyme Disease in Dover, MA. The Lyme Disease Committee is a subcommittee of the Board of Health. It's purpose is to educate the public and address the concern of the citizens over the rapid growth of lyme disease.
Dover and Sherborn have held the leading numbers for reported cases of lyme disease in this area. One of the largest contributors is the high quantity of deer running through the woods. Apparently the average for deer per square mile is 6 while in Dover and Sherborn the average is 22. Needless to say, since deers are one of the biggest carriers of ticks, the quantity is greater in these areas. The most effective means to decrease the cases of lyme disease is to limit the carriers - eliminating the deer population.
