It's that time of year when we as real estate people we think we have the right to tell our sellers what to do and not to do if they want to sell their home? First - the next 5-6 weeks usually bring fewer buyers (however those that do look during this time are usually serious). Most importantly, who do we think we are telling sellers not to express their religious beliefs, whatever they are, at this time or any time.
I have a tradition of sending out a "Holiday Decorating and Selling Your Home" letter of 'do and don'ts' - there are many don'ts during the holidays, but I don't believe telling people not to express their religious beliefs is our business. What I do tell them is: Many realtors tell you to keep your religious decorations in the boxes if you want to sell your home. It is my personal believe that your faith trumps all, so let your faith be your guide. Whatever you do just make sure of three rules: 1. less is better 2. tastefully done. 3. Put them away right after the holidays for decorations get stale quickly.
I have had nothing but positive response from this approach.
I'm finished ranting now!
