Granville Island Market ~ Vancouver's Piece de Resistance!

Granville Island Market ~ Vancouver's Piece de Resistance!

Each major city has their own Public Market - or three!  Vancouver's is the Granville Island Market! Last week I was in Vancouver hanging around waiting for my son to have some work done with a dental specialist....and I thought ~ it's been ages since I've been -I should go check it out!

The first thing that caught my eye was a little stand that sold CHESTNUTS ROASTED ON AN OPEN FIRE! Oh my word!  I waited a few minutes watching them roast and then slip into a little bag just for me! :-) It was the perfect thing to munch on on a gorgeous late autumn afternoon.

What makes Granville Island so unique'a  Public Market with fresh and fabulous floral bouquets....cheeses and pastas to make you drool.... AND  aneclectic mix of shops, boutiques and galleries. Everything from exotic stationary, to the funky hat and lamp stores; the Maritime Market with all things ocean related: kayaks, boat rentals, marine souvenirs and of course, seafood.

My Kids always adored the Kid's Market. Oh there were many a day that my kids would hang out at the water park there and then lunch here.   There's a unique selection of atypical toys, books, games, clothing, candy and adventure offer a refreshing alternative to the usual.

Granville Island is so cool with its array of arts-and-crafts studios and galleries, yummy restaurants, a yacht club and fabulous Arts Club Theatre! Staying in Vancouver for the Olympics? Hop on a water taxi and come on down!

Great photos of Granville Island Liz. So much variety there of things to do. I think I would head toward the galleries...

Liz - I love public markets.  We have Soulard Market plus a dozen or so Farmer's Markets in our area - the difference being that Farmer's Markets are typically temporary, 1-day per week affairs.  They are a great place to shop for produce and are just fun to visit.  The Granville Island Public Market looks like a great place to spend an afternoon.

I've never had chestnuts... O_O

But everything about that market looks like sheer heaven to me! I'd especially love to see the artsy boutique stores!  =D

Chestnuts roasted on an open fire.  Hhhhmmmmm. - I must go to Black Creek Pioneer Village this Christmas season to enjoy some during their nighttime Christmas festivities.  I haven't been there for a few years.

Those chestnuts remind me of Oxford St. in London in winter.

I've heard great things about this market from my sister, and it's definitely a place I'd like to visit WHEN I go to Vancouver.  As far as the chestnuts, it's a family tradition (for everyone in my family, except me, since I don't like them). :)

I love going to Granville Island market - so much going on there and the food is amazing.  My dad just lives across the water and we take the little ferry.
