Boeing

Work on Boeing Co.'s massive 787 Dreamliner plant got underway with a groundbreaking ceremony today that was attended by dozens of elected officials and hundreds of Boeing employees.

Jim Albaugh, Boeing's president of commercial airplanes, praised the local workforce and said the aerospace giant's recent decision to expand in Charleston, South Carolina is going to be good for our competitiveness, it's going to be good for our company, it's going to be good for the country and I think it will create jobs not just here in South Carolina but in Washington state.

Congrats!

However... I thought Boeing was expanding in South Carolina because Washington State and the unions there were making it too difficult for Boeing to compete?

How's that going to create jobs in Washington State?

Thanks Paul - not quite sure about that either but is what the Boeing guy said - probably being just politically correct but is great news for Chareston

I don't believe that there are any real questions about why Boeing relocated that plant to SC a "right to work" state.

You are on the money there Lenn - the one union we did have disbanded right before they make the announcements - Boeing is sending a strong message to the unions in Washington state.

Randall, great news for the area!  South Carolina is a great place for companies to relocate...lower taxes and a great community to raise families.

Randall, I think Jacksonville lost this plant to you. They were also looking at the Cecil Field (former Navy base) location but SC must have given them more incentives. Good for Charleston!

This should be great economic news for your area.  It should create lots of jobs which is what this economy needs.
