SPACE SHUTTLE AND SPACE STATION FLYOVERS, BATON ROUGE, LA

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty RED STICK PARTNERS

Thanks to Bob Southard of Marietta, GA for bringing this to my attention.  If you enjoy following NASA activities, you might like to step outside in the evenings to see the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle passing over Baton Rouge.  Sunset this evening is 5:04 p.m.   The weather forecast this week varies from sunny to partly cloudy, so the skies could be clear enough to see them.

For more interesting NASA information, you can visit http://spaceflight1.nasa.gov/realdata/.

Hi Sallie,

Thanks for the plug :-)

It amazes me that you can see them with the naked eye.  I'm sure the people around Baton Rouge will enjoy the sight.

Sallie, I'm sure this is info that the general public isn't aware of.  I've been going to the NASA site for some time now for this information.

Bob and Nick, thanks for stopping by.  I'm going to be watching in the evenings and might even try to get a photo.  I'm wondering if, with a zoom lens, I might get an image to enlarge.  It will be fun to experiment.

Sallie, I'm guessing that's going to be some telephoto if you want to see the space station...not to mention that you will not be able to hand hold the camera and get an unblurred shot.  But what do I know...give it a shot and use a tripod.  On the off chance that you are using a film camera...use a real fast film.

Nick, I'm sure you know a lot.  And thanks for the tips.  Our weather this evening is socked in with clouds.  If it doesn't improve over the next few days, we might not get to see them.  Have you stopped over at the Thanksgiving blog party?  Have a great Thanksgiving.

Sallie, We saw the shuttle go over a number of years ago but I'm usually sleeping when it comes in.  Maybe I can catch one of these.  It was the coolest thing seeing it streak across the sky.  I would LOVE to see it again.  I'm going to bookmark your blog so if I hear it is coming I can check the time.

Hi Marchel, When the shuttle lands at Cape Canaveral it often flies over Baton Rouge in the morning, and we hear the sonic boom after it has passed over.  Sometimes I stand outside just to hear the boom.  My husband worked on a consulting job with Martin Marietta many years ago when they were designing the external tank, so we feel that we have something invested in it (something other than taxes).  Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
