The Pink Glove Dance

In light of recent news that showed that breast self-exams are not necessary and a woman doesn't need to have a mammogram until she's 50 and only every other year thereafter, I thought I'd share the following "Pink Glove Dance" put together by Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Oregon.  I think they would highly disagree with the recent findings from the government task force.  I also encourage you to go to the Breast Cancer site to get your daily clicks in to help fund free mammograms for women.  It doesn't cost you a thing!

Heather - LOVE LOVE LOVE this video. It was an excellent and fun way to promote breast cancer awareness. This new recommendation is a WRONG. Early detection is critical and breast cancer doesn't have an age requirement. Great post. Thank you.

I agree with you 100% about how WRONG the latest recommendations are, Judy.  I was amazed.  So was my husband, who is in the medical field.  I asked him if it was going to be a problem for me to still get mammograms every year when I turn 40.  He said that it wouldn't be.  I just have to discuss it with my doctor and have them schedule it.  I'm lucky, though.  Since my husband works for a major HMO, we have amazing medical coverage.  I'm worried about all those women who aren't as fortunate as I am who may be turned down.  Early detection is the key to survival of this disease.  The recommendations are ridiculous.  Make sure to go to the Breast Cancer site to get your clicks in today!  It doesn't cost a dime!

Heather thanks for the great video....The government is very wrong...It doesn't matter how old you are or even if you are a male....you should be checked for it every time you go to the doctors....Having lost an Aunt from breast and brain cancer and having my other aunt fighting breast Cancer now I will tell you it is hard.....what the government is saying is bull$&^# YES I AM MAD...I lost one of my best friends to breast cancer...And I don't want to lose any more so Lady's have it done every six months the sooner it is detected the better your chance of beating it.....I know from experience the beating it and the losing it sides.......peace zane

That news made me incredibly mad, too, Zane.  My grandmother had breast cancer and passed away over 20 years ago.  Another dear friend passed away from breast cancer over 12 years ago.  But I have since had several friends who battled breast cancer and won it.  All the ones who I have known that had it and survived were diagnosed in their 40s.  The key to winning?  Early detection!

I also think that this recent recommendation is wrong.  A cyst was found by a mammogram at age 42 and I could not wait to have it cut out!  I was blessed that it was benign and for that reason I would not wait until 50 for a mammogram.
