Why do agents keep sticking knives in their own back?

I get the daily update of Active Rain topics in my email and every day I delete it with disdain for the headlines I just read! Every day, there is at least one post, often more, with negative headlines. Now granted, the article, blog, post what have you, may be well written, contain positive facts, and be intended for the benefit of our industry but.....

Every time the general public, many agents, and the media see negative headlines the only thing accomplished is ANOTHER knife in the back of the housing industry as a whole. The media sells papers, books, advertising slots, with negativity, even when the news is positive, they find a way to spin it to grip your attention for the worst.

Quit selling real estate, or at least pretending to be a real estate agent while passing your time posting on active rain, and go get a job selling advertising for the media groups because while your fans on active rain are raving about your well though out and fact filled post, your fans are also real estate agents who ARE NOT going to buy a house from you! The people that ARE going to buy a house, may well be searching the Internet, find an interesting property, do a little googling, find your NEGATIVE HEADLINES and get cold feet with out ever reading the articles.

Now, for the fun filled facts...

Was this an attack on active rain? NO, there are many more sites where agents that have too much time on their hands spend way too much time posting less then positive messages.

Was this an attack on real estate agents? NO, there are many productive, incredibly busy agents in today's market selling 100's of homes. I'm one of them. I haven't had time to post to this site in a couple years and rarely read it because of the negativity. However I do find the occasional gem among the many pieces of coal.

Was this an attack on the media, NO, what would be the point? The media will forever sell doom and gloom to save their jobs, so why do real estate practitioners sell doom and gloom and then cry they have no listings, or no buyers, can't get their short sale done, etc.

Every time someone asks me how I'm doing I respond with a firm EXCELLENT! Couldn't be better, I tell them. Wow, how's work? FANTASTIC! I've use those same words just 2 hours after learning my mother had just died when I answered a call I though was a relative but turned out to be a potential customer. I then shortly explained I will have to call him back because I was dealing with my mothers arrangements. He bought over 30 investment properties from me in the next few months. I learned to use those words years ago while I was facing foreclosure of my own home post 9/11 and heading for divorce. That same year I was the top producing agent in a 250 agent company. Today I'm still married to the same woman AND have 5 times the home I lost plus many investment properties.

Just 6 years after bankruptcy, foreclosure, and almost a divorce, I can say it has been the best 6 years of my life. No matter how bad everything around me is I force my self to use positive words and positive things happen! I teach seminars, one of the first things I ask the audience is how many of them are out of work or laid off (we are in Michigan, there are always huge amounts) and then respond GREAT! You don't have to worry about spending 8 hours a day wasting time at a job! You can spend 100% of your time changing your life!

Now quit posting negative headline and go change your and someone elses life!
