The time has started where people are connecting more. Perhaps it is the sweaters. We bundle ourselves up and we look so darn huggable that we smile and people smile back! We seem to bond when it gets cold – chatting about it, complimenting the jackets and envy if someone looks like they made a better choice than you to weather the cold. Why does this happen? Is it because we can see it? We are going through the cold too, so we look for those folks who are somehow surviving it in a thick parka or woven scarf? You would try to layer-up even if you don’t have a goose down floor length coat. If someone shared with you that they were cold – would you recommend they put on a sweater?
What if someone could wear something that showed you that they are a homeowner who is unable to make their mortgage payments? They are losing sleep as it is a daunting unknown, a leaky funnel of debt that feels out of control. They talked to their lender, sent in financial information and hardship letter (yes – ten times via fax). The lender then told them that they could not get a loan modification. The only choice was to try a Short Sale first and only if the Short Sale was unsuccessful would they then need to foreclose. They called a Realtor who knew the Short Sale process, and found a place to rent and packed up their home. The Short Sale is still going on 100 days later, but at least doing *something* is helping them sleep better at night.
If I could give you a clear-cut way to show you that people are bundling up in face of this happening, would you try it too?
It is cold outside - Financially. Some in our community are shivering, but we don’t know that they are cold. There is no way to tell – if we can’t see you, or you don’t or won’t tell us you are cold. I tell you there are resources in our community who are ready to help. But what if you don’t call, don’t try? Will you get Financial Frostbite? If you knew someone who was financially frostbitten, would you recommend they do something?
