Twang, Dang,Tut, Aye, uh and Eh! What Does Your Blogging Accent Say About You?

Real Estate Agent

I always get a kick out of accents.  I love them actually - and its so much fun trying to guess where people are from.  I know my American friends tease me about my 'ehs'......and of course I take a double take at their 'ahuh's' ........But apart from that how cool is it that every State has their own accent?  How does that happen?

My daughter Sarah is in England right now and she's been up to Scotland a couple of times and just recently ran into an American girl and said to me :  "mom its the first time in 2 months I've really understood what the heck they're talking about"!  And that's when everybody is speaking English!

Now who doesn't like a Sexy French accent........or Sean Connerys Scottish brogue?  mmm mmm

Sean Connery Or Antonio Bandera's hot hot hot ...

Yesterday I was reading on of Seth Godin's posts where the title was "What sort of accent do you have? " He talked about how we all have accents in more then just the normal sense of the world.  That it wasn't just about geography but more about attitude.  And not just about how you speak but also about how you write and act!  Hmm interesting eh? :p)

So for accent could be how 'long your sentences are'......or the type of punctuation you use...guess what I'm guilty of?  Yep I'm addicted to those 'ellipses'! :-) It can be about the words you use, or how you spell, how you use fonts and colours and even your graphics.  Your political viewpoint has an accent...your 'rules' have an accent.....your 'belief system' are all an accent of sorts.

That being said then, YOUR Blog has an Accent!  It's good to be conscious of that.  What's your accent?

Hey Liz - I've always maintained that I do not have an accent.  I also don't use "eh" in speech but I have been using "eh" in some comments on ActiveRain, usually for a "Canadian" effect.

I love the map of the U.K. with the accents.  But, each town has a separate accent and London as a few, cockney being one of them.  You are right about accents showing up in blogs.  I forget how it is but I think there is one guy who plays on having a cowboy accent.

Liz, I don't even have a New York accent, it's a Lon GUY land accent.....I don't believe there's anything worse.  I can't believe this little piece of land has it's own accent but it does :)

Liz- I used to have a bumber sticker in my youth that said "American by birth, southern by the grace of God."  And I truly believe without a doubt that my "accent" shows in my blog.  Although I must admit that once in while I loose my lady like manners, I have them most of the time. (I think)

Years ago a British woman worked for my firm. She went to the theater and at the box office they asked where she was from. She said London and they complimented her on just how good she had gotten with here English. True story and she was pretty T'd off.

My accent is English, American English. I dislike poor grammar, incomplete sentences, etc. Maybe that's why I dislike Twitter.
