Giving Thanks - Black Friday - and Football

Real Estate Agent

I wrote part of  this post last year but I thought it was worth reposting :-)

When I think of Thanksgiving... I think of Normal  Norman Rockwell and the perfect Family Dinner......We really have so much to be thankful for right?   The leaves are changing into beautiful golds, oranges and reds.....Smoke is starting to curl out of the chimney again...and there's that Autumn smell in the cider, pumpkins........mmmm.....

Deep sigh - Wouldn't it be Something ?  Hmmm we put  a fair bit of pressure on ourselves don't we?  Why do we think that families that don't get along the rest of the year will somehow be all lovey dovey on Thanksgiving - or Christmas for that matter? We really do tend to set some pretty high expectations for ourselves !

Holidays tend to be hard on most of us....The expectation and the reality don't always match.  It a little funny how people in their 30's, 40's and 50's can revert right back into the roles that they played when they were children.   Now who doesn't have a whopper of a story to share?  Care to? You're more then welcome to! :-)

Running around shopping, decorating, trying to wrap up work and STILL make the perfect meal can be kind of overwhelming...

Think he's looking stressed?  Hmmm just wait 'til dinner.......

Today Chicken Little is Very Happy she's not Mr. Turkey...

Have  someone in your family who drinks too much?  Someone with a knack for always saying the wrong thing at the wrong time?  Have you every had to stare mindlessly at the mashed potatoes for minutes on ....from the plain discomfort of making eye contact during embarassing moments?

Does your family celebrate a Redneck Holiday?

Maybe its time to Manage your Expectations?

Whatever it is you have right now that you are grateful for RIGHT NOW and would be sorely sad to lose, is what you should say THANK YOU for.  And maybe just want to give Black Friday a really how much more stuff do we really need ? :-)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I like the Norman Rockwell art, I always have. There is a nice charm to it.

I like the art.. but I agree that the expectations can certainly get out of hand this time of year.  Hope you are having a nice thanksgiving weekend.

Hello Liz-On this Thanksgiving I am thankful for having YOU and my other Active Rain friends. Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful. Mine was OK and nice enough but nothing spectacular. Some people are blessed with close families but mine is on speaking terms but not like the Waltons. Hope your day was special my friend. <SMILE>

I'm sorry Sharon - we all so want a Rockwell T/G and Christmas!  It wasn't our Thanksgiving today - but last month we had ours - we have a small family and now that my 2 girls are far away - it was a little melancholy - but i'm still blessed my parents, son, brother and family were with me. :-)

Ah yes, expectations vs. reality.  I have tried to blend the two over the years and now when something goes terribbly wrong I don't get uptight, I just laugh and move on.

Love Norman Rockwell's Redneck holiday Liz. I missed that one in the art museum LOL. Hope you thought of all of us with our Thanksgiving here in the lower 48 doing our version of Thanksgiving. I know yours in Canada is in October.

So true Liz - the media (plus our expectations) create so much hype. I am so glad I let it go quite awhile ago (after many a year of expectations - gee thanks Mom!!  I really did have so much fun growing up in a huge family with tons of happy folks around.  Now I'm just as happy with a group of 8 or 12.....  I also am very glad that giving so many presents is so gone......that's a crazy maker to me living to that kind of hype.

And we still LOVE to host bigger parties for 40 or 60 folks or so............I guess it's just in my blood...again...thanks Mom!!

Let the holidays begin - we are busy decorating this weekend and enjoying these moments!
