"BLACK FRIDAY" is generally the Friday immediately following Thanksgiving Day in the United States and typically the kick-off of the traditional Christmas shopping season.
What suprises me, is that in this day of "Political Correctness" someone hasn't come along and decided that the descriptive name of this busy shopping day does not seek to minimize social offense in gender, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, handicap, and age-related contexts.
Examples of language commonly criticized as "politically correct" most recently include name changes to the H1-N1 Virus, formerly known as the "Swine Flu Virus" because of the offense it caused partiular organizations and ethnic groups.
Gender Neutral terms such as "Police Officer/Fire Fighter" in lieu of "Policeman or Fireman". Historically related change in terms such as "Native American" in place of "Indian" (which has caused turmoil for city & state officials, sports leagues, Colleges & Universities and others to change their team names, mascots and logos) or even "African-American" in place of "Black" and other terms that are now socially taboo.
Here are a few of words that can certainly relate to the real estate world in a "more politically correct" way. I am sure that some of you who are over the politically correctness of our society will just get upset, others will see it as "what took so long", and still other will see the humour of our ways and that maybe some things have gone a tad too far with regards to trying to make eveyone happy, all the time.
For example:
As a follicularly challenged (Bald) REALTOR, I was contacted by a nice couple who were outdoor urban dwellers (homeless) trying to get out of their mortgage free living (homelessness) situtation. They were involuntarily leisured (unemployed) and were economically unprepared (poor) but were osmotically challenged (thirsty) for a new life.

They said they wanted a home located in an area with a low street activity index (crime rate) , it couldn't be aesthetically challenged (ugly) or near the economic oppression zone (slum). They knew that they could not avoid an area of possible geological correction (earthquakes) living in California, but decided that they would no longer approach the home buying process in a uniquely coordinated (clumsy) or challenge challenged (cowardly) way.
At first glance you would think that this nice couple was fecally plenary (full of crap) and just another case of mental explorers (insane people), I mean I might be comb-free (bald), but I'm not technologically challenged (computer illiterate) I knew it would be tough to find something and I found myself fighting off the tact avoidance (rudeness) that comes when it seems like someone is wasting your time after all I'm not visually challenged (blind) to these sort of things.

To make a long story short...I scheduled to meet with my new clients, but had to reschedule because it happened to be BLACK FRIDAY and they had gone out early to check out the great deals. What can I say? I left the least best (worst) for last.
For now I am going to guess that the $millons$ of dollars spent as a consumer each year during this busiest of busy days will certainly allow the retailers to keep the power of calling Black Friday whatever they want. I'm not looking to start any big political adventure to get the name change. I wouldn't be surprised if it was called something differnet over the next few years. Anyways...what do you think?
Have a great Holdiay Season (for me that means Christmas). Enjoy.
