Today, Friday, November 27 through Saturday, January 9, in an effort to keep those less fortunate warm this holiday season, Bay Street Emeryville is hosting their annual One Warm Coat Drive .

Throughout the holiday season, shoppers are encouraged to bring outerwear including rain coats, jackets and pea coats of all shapes and sizes to Bay Street. All donated coats will be distributed to those in need, free of charge, just in time for the winter season.  One Warm Coat will also be collecting coats and sweaters for the needy at the Santana Row Shopping Center in San Jose, the Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and the Westfield San Francisco Centre in San Francisco.

One Warm Coat started in the Bay Area 16 years ago and is now a national effort in 49 states. Last year the Bay Area collected more than 70,000 coats.

The mission is simple: providing anyone who needs a coat with a coat.

This is a wonderful way to recycle our coats and help others too.  New clothes are also appreciated.

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

I gave a bunch of coats I found in my closet to my husband yesterday to donate. I asked that he take them to a women's shelter, a place that helps women find work and get back on their feet. I donated a bunch of raincoats, wool jackets, down coats, and even a full length mink. But he didn't leave the mink at the shelter. Instead, he took it to the Salvation Army, which really didn't make any sense to me.
