Has your manager held the annual make a business plan meeting yet? If so, did you attend or did you decide that you knew what you were doing and didn't need to hear the same old speech again? I love learning about this business and do so at every given chance, so I attended our office's yearly meeting because I'm one of those that has never made a plan before. That's not to say that I have one in place, yet, but i'm working on it.
Our managers went one step further this time. They are holding coaching sessions for those willing to sit under the spotlight. Which means being coachable. Working in small groups, being held accountable and making a commitment is not for the faint of heart.
The first session made me unconfortable, but one of my favorite sayings kept going through my head: If it doesn't kill you, it will only make you stronger. I also realized I was poorly prepared and made a mental not to not let that happen again. It's putting me on track with a goal and acitivities to get me there. We can all make a plan and do the action items but somewhere along the way distractions set in. Our business is famous for that.
So, how do you get around it? We have home work/committments that have to be completed at our meetings. If the work isn't done, you have to 'fess up' in front of everyone. Ultimately, the goal is to become accountable to yourself. It's obviously a work in progress. Stay tuned!
