A White House Ornament Discovered through ActiveRain

2008 Ornament from Friends of the White House

You just never know who's reading your Activerain blog posts.

Last year, I lamented in You Snooze, You Lose - No More 2008 White House Ornaments that ornaments from the White House Historical Society had sold out before I got around to ordering.  Within 24 hours, I received an Activerain contact message from Peter Gacicia, President/CEO of Friends of the White House, telling me about a brand new series of White House ornaments from his organization.

A few days later, the inaugural ornament of this series arrived at my home - probably one of the most stunning ornaments I've ever seen.  Each one is hand-blown glass that is hand-painted with historically accurate original art, then silvered and gift-boxed.

2008 Ornament Friends of the Whitie HouseThe 2008 ornament commemorated the presidential administration of George Washington and honors his supervision of White House construction during his terms, 1789–1797.

The 2009 ornament honors his successor, John Adams, our nation’s second president and the first to reside in the newly constructed White House during his term, 1797–1801.

Since the first ornament was so stunning, I’m going to order another one this year for a gift as well as one of the John Adams ornament.  Had it not been for Activerain, I never would have known about this series, so I want to pass it on to you, too.

Here’s a link to Friends of the White House if you’d like to order one or both of these stunning ornaments.

P.S. - They also offer a third ornament commemorating the inauguration of Barack Obama, if that interests you.

Margaret, those are some very attractive ornaments. We decorate with a mixture of glass ornaments that are probably 60 years old but still need to be handled very carefully. In fact we still have some of the original boxes, and they are probably more special because they proclaim that the contents were made in America, go figure.

Hi Margaret ~ These are beautiful - I want all three! I have a soft spot for the Adams ornament since my house is built on a farm that Abigail inherited from her father - can't wait to read the new biography. Love your new picture by the way.

Roland - This was truly a surprise.. and a pleasant one.  I couldn't believe the incredible attention to detail on these ornaments.  I feel very fortunate to have one from the first year of the series, and apparently they still have some of those to offer.

Ed - That must be a beautiful tree!  I hope you take some photos of those ornaments and share them with us.  I have a few of my grandmother's ornaments, and I really treasure them.

Terry and Bonnie - That is so true!

Liz - Now that is quite a connection.  I think you'll enjoy reading the long description of the Adams ornament.

Joan - I would never have known about them if Mr. Gacicia had not contacted me.  I've been collecting those from the White House Historical Society for my grandchildren and I don't always find them attractive.

Hannah - You're welcome.  I think they could make a very impressive gift for that someone who has everything.

Carla, I suspect he's registered for google alerts on the term "white house ornament" and, since google loves Activerain, that's probably how he found my post.  If you read between the lines here, what you write on Activerain is easily found by interested consumers.

Penny, the hand painting on this is amazing.  When you think of the fact that each one is hand-painted...

Linda, Now that I'm a grandmother, I feel like it's my "job" to have a magical tree full of breakable ornaments (like my grandmother did), and none is more beautiful than this one.

Debe - Actually, it was "Friends of the White House" - but yes, I will treasure that ornament.  I highly recommend this as a gift for those few very special clients for whom you want to do something extra (not to mention yourself).
